Top Customer Reviews
The Cusinart is about the size of a large microwave oven and looks just like one from the outside. I had no problem finding a home for it in my modest kitchen, but those with very small kitchen may find it difficult to place, especially since it needs space to circulate heat properly. The exterior is done in brushed stainless steel except for the left hand side of the door and the control panel. The interior is completely stainless steel as well. Overall, it's very nicely made, looks upscale, and will match pretty much any kitchen décor. Included with the Cusinart is a glass turntable and a double sided cooking rack. The rack has different length feet on each side you can place food closer to the cooking element, or layer dishes. Lastly, I'd like to point out that the Cusinart has a 3-year warrantee.
Using the Cusinart is easy. You simply select the cooking mode, choose a temperature (or microwave power setting), set the time, and hit start. The Cusinart offers a handful of cooking modes; there is microwave, convection bake, convection roast, defrost, convection fast bake, grill, and keep warm. The convection roast and fast bake use a combination of microwave and traditional heating. There are also a handful of presents and a memory setting. When using any of the baking modes the Cusinart will display the oven's current temperature and alert you when it is preheated. You can also program it to spend a certain amount of time in one mode and then switch to another.
In use the Cusinart works well. I used it as a traditional microwave to heat up beverages and it works just as you would expect. With 1000 watts of microwave power it heats up quickly. I used the convection setting to roast garlic with the rack on the upper level. The garlic came out perfectly. Lastly, I used the convection roast setting to cook a 3.5 pound marinated chicken. I placed the chicken directly on the rack on the lower level with a dinner plate underneath it to catch the drippings. The chicken took 55 minutes to cook and came out golden and crispy on the outside and juicy and perfectly cooked on the inside. Since the Cusinart has a square interior, without any odd cutouts or bumps, it's easy to fit items inside. When running the Cusinart is fairly quiet and no louder than a traditional microwave except for the occasional knocking / rattling noise. Sadly, the turntable is not very smooth, so make sure you don't fill containers up to the top with liquids or they could splash out.
One important thing to keep in mind is that when you are using the convection modes the Cusinart's exterior gets very hot to the touch. The left hand side is extremely hot. It's too hot to touch or place objects near. The top of the door and the top of the unit get very hot as well but not as badly as the left hand side. The right hand side and the front of the door stays cool, however. When I bake with the Cusinart I move objects on the left hand side out of the area and pull it away from the wall so it has more clearance above the unit.
Cleaning the Cusinart is easy. I used a damp soapy sponge to clean up the interior. The cooking rack cleaned up perfectly in the bottom rack of my dishwasher.
All in all... a nicely designed all-in-one appliance that does it all well.
06/17/2017 Update: I'm still using it and it works great. I've been making dinner in it during the summer to keep the amount of heat in the kitchen down. I make a lot of chicken / potato dishes using the convection roast setting.
To all the naysayers on this site... who can't cook chicken, I say "you probably never will."
This thing rivals $4000 machines from 1984.
Buy it. Read the manual. Try new stuff.
This one is horrible. Barely cooks on convection, had to go back to my regular oven. Baked potatoes
were lumpy. Only good for microwave( my $89. microwave was just as good) didn't need to buy this.
