It is made in China and the information that comes with the board is nil. I want to know how safe it is for food—what kind of stain, what kind of glue is used putting this together. There is no information telling the consumer how safe it is for food. We’ve come to an age where we can’t just assume a product marketed for use with food is safe.
I notice a couple of reviews mentioned using this as a cutting board and to be fair, it isn’t marketed as a cutting board. I would be very concerned about cutting food on it for reasons I mentioned above.
Nearly $25.00 for a board just to set pizza on the table is a little high for my budget so I would pass on this one and get a designated cutting board and use it for both cutting and serving.
When I opened the box, I was initially very impressed with the board. As I picked it up, I realized it is very thin, probably half an inch. I also noticed that the boards are most likely glued together. And the color on this serving board is not the wood's natural color. These were things I was willing to deal with. Considering I wouldn't be using this as a cutting board, those initial observations may not matter.
But then, when I took the board out of the clear plastic bag it was shipped in, I realized that the wood felt really rough. Like it was never sanded well. My wife suggested we wash it and maybe that roughness will go away. I am not as hopeful.
This is a product that seemed to be rushed to market a little too quickly. Granted, all four of those issues may have no baring on its ability to do what it is designed to do. But at $25, this serving board would be better with a little more refinement.
I plan to update this review after really using it a few times. But for now I would give it 3-4 stars.
While the board looks nice, it just feels cheap and chintzy. The board is about 1/2" thick and doesn't feel well made. When we have cut pizza on it even a plastic wheel cutter leaves grooves/marks on the board. While I am OK with this aesthetically, from a longevity standpoint I don't think this has it in it to last the long haul.
For a straight serving platform it does look good on our table and performs this function well. For its intended use I would be hesitant to recommend for the reasons cited.
Truthfully we were hoping for more from a trusted name and brand like Cuisinart.
Also there were several light colored "chips" in the sides of the board right out of the box. These were few and not glaring. However they make me question how durable this board is. My husband suspects these "chips" are actually fillers that were used to repair "flaws" in the board.
This is a nice light weight board. The wood is not as dense as bamboo which likely is why it shows use so easily.
