I had thought this would be good for me and small jobs as there are only two of us, I was excited to get it.. after the first try, I hate it and its going back.. first I didn't like the combination of the pusher, it doesn't come apart for cleaning and I saw that as a potential problem later on, but the first thing I was doing in it, was a tiny batch of dinner rolls, 1 1/4 cups of flour, not a heavy dough either, I put the dough blade in, and started up, feeling excited about it, then the machine bounced all over and I had to hold it so it didn't fall on the floor, it kept trying to quit on me besides, and got hot, when I stopped it and took my dough out it was hot as well and I had to throw it out.. trying to take the machine apart was a mess. The dough got under the dough blade and leaked onto the motor of the machine. This was not a heavy dough or a wet one. it was a mess to try to clean, I don't trust it now that it kept wanting to quit on me from just the first use. I was also not happy with the flimsy bowl and lid, I did not see longevity there. Granted it wasn't an expensive machine but all this added up to me returning it. It shouldn't have kept trying to shut off on me, it had only been running not 2 min. something wrong here.

Perhaps the best intermediate available . . .

I have been using this food processor every other day since I purchased it 5 weeks ago. The pluses: the motor seems to be the stong feature of this "intermediate" capacity, 7-cup, processor. It's heavier than other 7-8 cup processors, and I like that characteristic. The controls are as simple as it gets. It's appearance is complementary. I found the unit relatively easy to clean.

The minuses: There are 2 main issues I have with the unit. It's actual working capacity is 3 to 3 1/2 cups. Denser preparations may boost its working capacity to 4 cups. Liquid items like salsas and blended soup broths and vegetables will leak at spin up if you fail to keep the food at least 1/2" below the top of the blade hub. If you attempt to put liquids and foods above the limit I mentioned, be prepared to clean-up. Putting downward preassure on the top does nothing to stop the leakage. Top and bottom components do not fit tightly, there is not an effective seal. Enough liquid came flying out at my early attempts that I went online to see if I was missing a gasket for my unit. (There is none) I adjust by making smaller batches which actually puts less strain on the motor and the unit performs even better. This is only a limitation if you are a larger family. I believe the unit is still the best intermediate I have seen. The locking mechanism for the food pusher has an unusual locking method that does not look like it will outlast my life expectancy for well-made kitchen appliances. Still, I found it does quick work of whatever food I put through it. It stays cool, even after running continuously for several minutes. I find this model does a good job making mayonnaisee quickly. (I will never buy store-bought mayo or hummus again!) I am going through a healthy food "renaissance" and this Cusinart has added to my ability to take control of the food I eat.
I noticed on the Cuisinart site that this model is now discontinued, so there may be some bargain pricing available.

Cuisinart DLC-10SY Easy Winner Over FP-8SV

This is my second DLC-10, now DLC-10SY (7 cup). My last one gave me 15 years before the bowls cracked, so good value. Cost of the bowl set is almost the cost of a new one, so a no-brainer. Now I have backup blades, knife ....

I compared this to Cuisinart FP-8SV which is an 8 cup unit, but really no comparison. The 8 is feels flimsy and cheap compared to the 10. The 10 has a much more powerful (and heavier) motor and comes with a much longer warranty. As important, the feed tube is much wider on the 10. Also improved is the locking mechanism. Removing the feed tube on the old 10 was a bit of a puzzle lock and inconvenient. The 10SY totally solves that, and it is a snap to take the feed tube on and off. The 8 has no lock at all, I think because the feed tube is so narrow that it is nearly impossible to accidentally get a hand or finger down the tube and into harms way.

Price difference is about $30, but you get that back in the convenience of a larger feed tube, higher build quality, and longer warranty and durability.

What happened to Cuisinart?

I have an old Cuisinart that has lasted over 15 years. It's simple to use, no fancy lids, no blades that need assembling, just pop on the lid and go. This one sucks. There are too many steps to take and parts to assemble to just use this thing. It feels clunky and cheap--like it's going to fall apart if you touch it the wrong way. The lid assembly is freaking stupid. There's a push down area for larger food that would not come apart no matter how hard I tried, so I was unable to actually put food in the thing. The small push part was so small that food didn't fit. Anyway, I returned it. I want a duplicate of my old cuisinart....and it doesn't exist anymore. Don't get this one. It's a piece of junk.

Really Powerful Food Processor

My 25 or so year old model of this size and type died after years of excellent service. This one is a HUGE improvement over something that really didn't need improving! It's heavier and much faster at mixing meat and veggies for my dog's food. I use my processor a lot---mixing up to 40 lbs of meat with veggies and supplements each month. I had no idea how much my machine had slowed down until I made my first batch with the new one. Took half the time. And, the new lid for jobs like this one is so much easier to clean! So very pleased with this machine. I hope one even better is available in another 25 years when this one needs to be replaced.

Me gusto mucho el procesador, la base es bastante pesada para mover facilmente, supongo que es para estabilidad del aparato, funciona bien, aunque hay que usarla no tan llena, porque luego quedan algunos trozos grande, yo los aparto y los proceso despues aparte para evitar sobreprocesar todo lo demás. Los rayadores aun no los he usado porque tengo otro procesador para eso, aunque me hubiera gustado que tuviera una pieza para almacenar los discos y toda esa parte de los rayadores cuando no se usan, sin embargo son piezas que se venden por separado y a un precio no tan economico. En si el aparato tiene buena pinta, fácil de usar y lavar, y hasta el momento no he tenido problemas, he picado carne, zanahorias, betabel (que son duros), entre otras cosas y todo ha funcionado bien.
