Ultimately, the YouTube video on this processor initially drove our buying decision - see [...]
Unboxed the DLC-2009CHBMY, did our quick "wash everything new" thing, and put it right to work. Ran on-and-off for about an hour chopping garlic & nuts, and finally shredding carrots, and slicing celery and onions. Was hardly even warm when done!
The machine is powerful; yet VERY quiet. If you didn't have your hand on the base to feel the torque, you'd hardly even know it was running until you started feeding. And man does it have an appetite. The extra wide mouth is EXCELLENT. No more pre-slicing onions into quarters ... halves work just fine. And, clean-up was a breeze. Seriously, anyone who has to put this into the dishwasher is just plain lazy. LOL
Only wish we had a storage rack to house the ultra-sharp blades ... will work on that.
Looks great. Works better. Now it just needs to stand the test of time.
Wish us luck. Enjoy MFJLabs 5x
This Cusinart receives ratings that exceed my experience with it. It's flimsy (the stainless finish is painted plastic), it's moderately stable - but not really - when running, and the mixing bowl consistently leaks while running. This leak isn't major, but it does add to the time for clean-up since the base almost always gets some spillage (and no, this isn't due to overfilling the bowl – rather, the top and bottom of the bowl simply let juice flow out).
I surely would not purchase this food processor if I had it to do over again! But I've got it now, and I'll make do. My advice: look for another. At this price point, I'd expected more from Cusinart.
So I had to set off to replace "the perfect machine" online. I insisted on a heavy metal base, minimal footprint, mid-size capacity (for 1 or 2 people, not a hungry family) and this fits the bill PERFECTLY! In fact, it takes up a tiny bit less room than Old Faithful. Top mechanism is easy to take on and off, blade slices any and everything neatly and with razor precision. I ordered other sizes in slicer and shredder blades, plus a plastic dough blade. I also ordered an extra work bowl though this one, being one sturdy piece instead of bowl+handle, is much stronger.
I hope I'm good now for another 42 years.
Before purchasing, I went to the Cuisinart website to research the product. They have a video posted in which a woman demonstrates the product. In one part of the video, she tells the viewer what is in the box. She specifically mentions a plastic dough blade and an instructional DVD. Neither were in the box.
Bear in mind that the video telling the prospective customer these items are included is on the official Cuisinart website.
I emailed them. I believe Cuisinart is in a race to the bottom of the customer service world with Comcast cable, and they appear to be winning. So far, 7 days later, they have not responded, other than to ask for the machine's serial number. That was 5 days ago. A follow-up query has gone unanswered.
This is not my first rodeo with Cuisinart customer service. I own a set of their All Clad pots and pans, a pressure cooker, convection oven, 3 Dutch ovens, an ice cream maker, and a knife set. Any time I needed assistance, they have exhibited a "couldn't care less" attitude. I keep telling myself I won't purchase from them again. And like an idiot, I do.
If I don't hear from them in the next few days, I will return the unit and purchase one from a company that actually values their customers.
