Drive shaft BROKE in 3 months & warranty makes you PAY to repair!

When I first got this food processor, I was jumping up and down with excitement. I even bought the veggie noodle maker attachment. I diced, I sliced, I noodled, I whipped. I didn't mind that storing all the pieces and parts took up an entire shelf of a cabinet or that it never seemed like I could use it without getting every blade and attachment dirty. What I DO mind is that 3 months into using the Cuisinart FP-13DGM Elemental 13 Cup Food Processor, the drive shaft just stopped working. When you push any speed button the center spindle (that drives the blades and attachment gear) would turn once or twice, then just stop. The motor would keep running, but the drive would be motionless. When I bought the Cuisinart FP-13DGM Elemental 13 Cup Food Processor I felt sure that a reputable company like Cuisinart would stand behind its products. Heck, it comes with a 3-year warranty! But Cuisinart's customer service said they won't replace the machine AND they charge you shipping BOTH WAYS to send it to their factory to repair it. This is for a machine that is THREE MONTHS OLD! When I protested, they said to call Amazon and see if Amazon would replace it. Finally I asked the warranty representative to email me the instructions to return the unit and she said I had to go to their website and email their email service department for that. Cuisinart is clearly a company that DOES NOT stand behind their products and DOES NOT care about their customers' experience.

My old Cuisinart (which still worked great) was 20 years old. So for my birthday, I asked my husband for this new, wonderful one. In general, it works pretty well. I also wanted the dicer, which works okay, but is kind of tricky.

What I have recently discovered is that when I want to use it to shred cabbage for cole slaw (something that was a snap with my old one) - it doesn't work well. The shredded cabbage collects in the lid, the shreds that fall into the bowl are only on one side of the bowl, and the pushers pick up pieces of the cabbage and stick - making it almost impossible to continue pushing OR to remove them.

So basically in this instance, my 20-year-old Cuisinart worked much better than the new one does.

So you know, I am not Andrew, I am Andrew's wife.

Only use medium/small Feed Tubes with Dicer

I really bought this for the dicing option, especially when I saw a Cuisinart rep using the large feed tube to put in whole potatoes. I ended up jamming my large piece sweet potatoes and made a comment on that YouTube. The manual says only use the small or medium feed tubes, and that the video was inaccurate. I also got some great tips for helping in clean-up. I made sweet potato crackers and after taking out most of the dough, I put the bowl back on and I ran it on high for a short time. The blades were nearly empty of my precious dough. Taking out the blade, it was then very easy to use my spatula to clean the rest. Otherwise, trying to get this sort of dough off of the blade without the “quick spin” would have been very difficult!!

I've had my processor for a little over a month now and have used it quite a bit. I have to say I'm very pleased with it. It's easy to use and I hand wash immediately after using so it cleans up easily. I've made pie dough, cookie dough, chopped nuts in both the large and small bowls, shredded and sliced veggies and diced potatoes. I REALLY like the adjustable slicer. I don't know how people could say it felt flimsy to them because I thought it was sturdy enough. The only thing I didn't like was the instruction manual which I found to be rather vague. Luckily, I'm the type that can figure out what wasn't clear. Would I buy again or recommend this processor? Definately.

Cooks Illustrated Magazine chose this as the best food processor and I agree. Everything I have done in this unit has been completed with ease. I found the best way to clean the blades is to place them in the dishwasher as no matter how careful I am when hand-washing, I cut myself. I have yet to use all the attachments and blades and may never have the need. The unit and all the attachments take up quite a bit of room, however. I didn't see where I could purchase it with fewer attachments however.

I have not yet tried the dicing kit. I took the items out of the dicing kit container, but cannot see how to put the items back so I can close it so it is contained, the way it was when I got it. A DVD would have been helpful. However, I have used the other items for the machine and I like it so far.
