Freezing Time and Bowl Preparation

The freezer bowl must be completely frozen before you begin your recipe. The length of time needed to reach the frozen state depends on how cold your freezer is. For the most convenient frozen desserts and drinks, leave your freezer bowl in the freezer at all times. You can take it out any time for immediate use. In general, freezing time is between 6 hours and 22 hours. To determine whether the bowl is completely frozen, shake it. If you do not hear liquid moving, the cooling liquid is frozen. Before freezing, wash and dry the bowl. Wrap it in a plastic bag to prevent freezer burn. We recommend that you place the freezer bowl in the back of your freezer where it is the coldest. Your freezer should be set to 0°F to ensure proper freezing of all foods.

Making Frozen Desserts or Drinks

  1. Use Cuisinart recipes included in the Instruction Booklet or use your own recipe, making sure it yields 2 quarts or less. Do not fill the freezer bowl higher than 1/2-inch from the top. The ingredients will increase in volume during the freezing process. For best results, prepare the ingredients in a container from which it is easy to pour.
  2. Remove the freezer bowl from the freezer and place on the center of the base. The bowl will begin to defrost quickly once it has been removed from the freezer. Use it immediately after removing from freezer.
  3. Place mixing bowl arm in freezer bowl. Arm does not fit tightly. It just rests in the center of the bowl, with the circle side facing up.
  4. Place lid on the base. Easy lock lid mechanism allows the lid to rest on base in multiple positions.
  5. Turn the On/Off switch to ON position. Freezer bowl will begin to turn.
  6. Immediately pour ingredients through ingredient spout.
  7. Frozen desserts or drinks will be done in 25-35 minutes. The time will depend on the recipe and volume of the dessert or drink you are making. When the mixture has thickened to a soft serve consistency, it is done. If you desire a firmer consistency, transfer the dessert or drink to an airtight container and store in the freezer for two or more hours.
Adding Ingredients

Ingredients such as chips and nuts should be added about 5 minutes before the recipe is complete. Once the dessert or drink has began to thicken, add the ingredients through the ingredient spout. Nuts and other ingredients should be no larger than a chocolate chip.

I've only used this once, to make plain vanilla ice cream (following the recipe in the manual), and the ice cream was excellent. Like other machines out there, it is a bit deceiving to think you can have fresh ice cream made in 30 minutes; the reality is the inside container must be frozen for hours before-hand, and many recipes require that the mix be refrigerated for several hours before being made. It is also a fairly loud machine while in use, so I won't be using it when my children are sleeping. The end result, however, is very good.

Excellent appearance, one of the few appliances I have out on my counter, get compliments/questions frequently.
Works well (makes a great cinnamon chocolate ice cream!)
Great warranty
Very durable ice bowl

Even with a solid freeze of the bowl you'll need to put the ice cream in the freezer for an hour or two afterwards. Just too soft for more than a little taste.
Slightly cheap inner ice cream mixer apparatus (plastic on plastic gears/blades)
Any heavy mixings added towards end still fall to bottom due to soft consistency and poor stirring

I've owned this product for over 2 months now & I literally use it 2-3 times a week! Not only does it look amazing on the counter I get so many compliments too. I don't have to hide this product in the pantry, it blends in perfectly in my home and overall an awesome product. I have made frozen Greek yogurt and many different flavor ice creams like butter pecan, mint chocolate chip with Andes chocolate, rosted almond fudge swirl, cookies and cream, French vanilla & chocolate. It takes about 10-15 mins for my flavored frozen yogurt to be at soft serve consistency and about 30-35 for my ice cream. If you leave it in longer for about 40 mins its more thicker and dense. The product does make noise but that's a given since it has a motor it's not silent but not extremely loud. I can have this machine in without having to worry about waking my baby.
If your an ice cream fanatic like me I recommend that after every use to stick it back in the freezer so it can be ready to use whenever you want. My freezer is really cold so it takes only 10 hrs for it to freeze completely.
this product is perfect to use when you have company over they will be very happy and pleased plus it's fun to do. Just make sure to have the mix ready before and refrigerate... If you really want to process to speed up stick it in the freezer and stir occasionally after 30 mins depending if you pasteurize your eggs ( hot mix) if you use only milk and cream it should get cold within 15 mins.
I've never owned a ice cream machine and was scared to buy one after seeing how soupy it came out once for my friend but quickly learned she didn't have her bowl cold enough and only had it churning for 15 mins. I did it the old fashion way in a bag but it has never came out smooth and fluffy. Defiantly worth the $59

This cute-looking and old-fashioned style ice cream maker is a variant of the "Donvier" style ice cream maker. The Donvier was a Japanese invention that consists of a sort of bucket you freeze solid in your freezer, then pour your cooled ice cream mix into. You turn a crank, and a paddle scrapes the frozen portions ("shell" freezing along the insides) and mixes and freezes until the entire mixture has become a semi-solid slurry. At the same time, the paddle-scraper has aerated the mixture. Stirring, to prevent big ice crystals, and aerating are two important things that happen when we make ice cream, and it's why a churn needs to be either hand cranked (a la my Amish neighbors in an old wooden bucket style churner, or the original Donvier) or cranked by some kind of electric device.

Why do I mention this? If you have one of those Donvier type churns, or you have a Kitchenaid ice cream attachment for your Kitchenaid Mixer, it's the same principle--the shell freezing and mixing, only this cute bucket does the churning for you.

You will still have to freeze the churn before using (unlike the traditional ice-and-salt chilled churn) and you will have to freeze and age your ice cream afterwards, because the mix comes out of the ice cream maker too soft to scoop. But that is true of almost any ice cream maker save the very expensive refrigerated kinds.

Still, this is cute as a button, it works, and it looks adorable on the table or counter. If you already have a Donvier or Kitchenaid type of ice cream maker, this is the same thing, just electrified as a self-standing unit. It is not actually, technologically, any different. However, if you don't own an ice cream maker, this could be a great choice for your family.

I was looking for a replacement for our old salt and ice electric ice cream maker. I first tried a Lello maker with its own compressor, but did not have luck with freezing. My second purchase is this Cuisinart ICE-35 and I am very happy with it.
TIPS: Freeze bowl in the back of your freezer or deep freeze it for 24 hours and chill the mix beforehand.

By doing this, I was able to make two consecutive batches without re-freezing the bowl. DO NOT however try to add any mix to a batch already started. Wait until one finishes, empty it then pour in second.

Also, I would like to add that my family did not care for the vanilla recipe included in the given booklet.

Did not give it a 5 star rating because the the ice cream is not the same smoothness as say DQ.
