The Cuisinart SmartBlender 600 has a wide base, powerful motor, and heavy-duty glass jar. Watch it in action!

I use a blender for making dips and salad dressings. Most of my base ingredients are cheeses which can and have burned up several blender motors. This unit is very powerful and there has not been a hint of a hot motor on any of my creations as yet. With it's simple controls it is preventing me from destroying it. Who needs ten plus power selections like on most blenders. We all have smelled burning motor coils on products like this one. I have finally met my match and look forward to many more creative dip and dressing moments.

I researched a significant number of blenders before choosing this one, all the way up to Vitamix and Blendtec. I had believed that the correct price-point for around two hundred dollars, so started my search there. Nearly every blender I read about had some fatal flaw, so I was surprised to find this model at under one hundred. I am very happy with this blender. The designers at Cuisinart really put some thought into this product.

We've been using it for about 1 month, probably 3-4 time per week. Lots of smoothies and soups.

In summary, here are the things that convinced me to buy this model, or have pleasantly surprised me while using it:

1) Removable blades for cleaning. Many higher-end model don't allow this, and I believe this will lead to gross stuff growing in the bottom. But beware, the blades are sharp.
2) Rubber ring sealing the jar with the blades/base. I believe this is the smart way to design a blender.
3) Easy to remove screw-on base from jar. Rubber ring makes it easy to know how tight to make it.
4) Sealed buttons on motor unit--doesn't allow liquids to get into motor unit. Buttons have small LEDs on them.
5) Clever design of base of jar, that captures drips before they get into motor or on counter.
6) Very quiet in low speed setting (surprisingly quiet, but typically powerful enough for the job). But noisy (as expected) at high speed.
7) Nicely designed/secure lid for jar. Seals tight, but not hard to remove. A flexible plastic, with several tiers of seals.
8) Glass jars isn't too heavy, and its weight keeps the jar from moving during blending (you don't need to hold it). Good handle.
9) Pressed metal motor enclosure is durable and looks very nice. It's not plastic/cheap.

I wanted to set the review record straight on this blender, to the degree that I can. I bought it for one reason: to make smoothies. A mixed fruit and almond milk smoothie is lunch almost everyday. This blender's job is to convert the mixture into a smooth shake, no lumps, and do it fast. In short, it does exactly that. This blender replaces another Cuisinart, a blender/food processor I had. That also worked pretty well, but not as well as this one. For one thing, the older device didn't always puree the banana. It left small chunks. This blender turns a banana into mush in a hurry. One reviewer complained about the mismatching materials that make up the drive mechanism. A brass or metal fitting spinning a plastic gear connected to the blade. My blender uses only hard plastic for both parts, same as the older blender/food processor. They should hold up fairly well, but I can't speak to longevity having only just bought this machine. That's why I only give it four stars. It was the drive mechanism that failed on the older machine. It froze up, wouldn't spin. I'm hoping that won't happen to this new model. Another reviewer wrote that it's hard to take apart to clean. I don't find it so, but I have a decent grip. A person with small hands and a weak grip might find it a challenge, like opening a stubborn jar of peanut butter or something. But I don't see how that can be helped. The cutting blade assembly has to be screwed tightly to the jar or it would leak. I don't feel that Cuisinart can be faulted here. Maybe when you screw on the blade assembly, don't screw it as tightly as you can; it will be easier to unscrew for cleaning. Personally, I don't disassemble it everyday. I rinse it out under the tap, wipe it with a sponge. I only take it apart for a more thorough cleaning every few days.Read more ›

I was just about to give in and purchase a $200 smoothie blender when I ran across this one. My old $65 blender left chunks in my smoothies even though I had to stick a knife in and stir while it was mixing. For the money I've never had a blender as good as this Cuisinart 600. Crushes ice and blends smoothies as if it were mixing water! There is a catch. It will not blend a small amount of frozen fruit alone or with yogurt. Even with a little juice. If you fill the jar half way with frozen fruit and juice it blends like nothing else I've ever used.

I recently purchased the SmartPower® Deluxe(tm) 600-Watt Blender, on Amazon, as a birthday present for my sister so that she could make smoothies. The very first time she used it, following the instructions in the product manual, the unit made awful grinding noises and one of the prongs on the blade assembly became twisted and bent. When my sister called Cuisinart customer service, she was given the run-around and was told that the prong is supposed to look that way (even though it wasn't bent before). I called Cuisinart the next day and spoke with someone else who told me that the blade assembly isn't covered under the warranty because it is "an accessory". Say what?!! To me, "accessories" are optional, and not an integral part of the product. No blade, no blending, right? I was told that they would replace the blade assembly for $28.00 (plus shipping and handling). That was unacceptable to me, so I asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor agreed that the blade isn't an accessory...it is considered a "part". However, according to this supervisor, "parts" are not covered under the LIMITED warranty. After some heated discussion, she reluctantly agreed to send a replacement assembly, free of charge, as though she were doing us a favor.

We'll see if the new blade ever arrives. Until then, I cannot give this product or the warranty behind it anything but a poor rating. When, and if, the new assembly arrives and the blender works as advertised, I will return to modify this review and give the SmartPower® Deluxe(tm) 600-Watt Blender a better rating.
