HF-360A Whole House Filter
Protects plumbing and appliances, and even improves your drinking water!
Your washing machine, dishwasher, hot water heater, faucets, toilets, showers, and most refrigerators all have two things in common.
1) They are expensive, and 2) They use water.
Protecting those appliances from rust, sand, scale, sediment with the use of a water filter simply makes sense. The HF-360A features a 3/4 inches NPT inlet and outlet for simple installation using either brass or CPVC fittings to adapt to the size of the water line. One of the key features of the HF-360A is the transparent housing sump which allows you to see the filter in action, and help you stay on top of the water quality in your home.
Interested in using the HF-360A as a chlorine filter?
Use the SCWH-5 filter. It is carbon wrapped to reduce chlorine, with a poly-spun 5 micron core that filters rust, scale, sediment, sand, and silt.
The fine print:
Use on cold water line only. This system works best when plumbed in between the main water shut-off and the hot water heater.
Temperature Range: 40°F - 100°F.
Pressure Range: 30-125 PSI.

Install was simple enough.
But when I turned the water on it had a slow leak around the handle at the top (not between the clear body and the blue top)... since I had it hard plumbed into my system I didn't want to take it off. I turned the water off and did some investigating and under the handle there are 4 screws. I took those out and there is an O-ring around the handle interior. I put a bunch of plumbing silicone grease on the o-ring, reassembled it, and the leak was FIXED.
So be advised... If you get a leak coming under the handle you can fix it. Just be sure to turn the water off first!
I downgraded the product to 3 stars since I had to fix it. Now it seems to work OK.
UPDATE - 3may2013
This filter housing is still going strong. I've probably changed the filter 4-6 times.
I have had no issues with leaks. It seems the initial fix is holding fine.
Maybe the problem was a twisted O-ring and when I removed it and greased it the reason it stopped leaking was that it wasn't rolled?
Anyway, just wanted to update the review to let you know it is working.
If it keeps up this good performance maybe I will upgrade it to 4 stars...
BTW - I am using these filters
Culligan P5-D Level 4 5 Micron Sediment Filtration 2 Pack Replacement Cartridges
During the Thanksgiving holidays I took some time off doing house chores. One morning I was washing plates and utensils in the kitchen sink. Suddenly, the water stopped flowing, i.e., no water pressure. It took me 2 seconds to realize that something wrong and I heard noise coming from the basement. I rushed down to the basement and found the filter clear housing EXPLODED, literally - please see the picture that I attached. The water was rushing out form the water main. I was lucky to discover this in no time and I was at home at that time. Or, my entire finished basement/home office will be ruined.
Then, believe it or not, I got another Culligan HF-360A whole house filter from Amazon. Even though the new one had the same model number, the new clear housing seemed not fit the old "filter head" where the in/out water pipes were connected. Then, I removed the old head and installed the new one. To my surprise, the valve did not leak like the old one (I had the Teflon tape ready by my side). I was not sure if Culligan improved the design, or it was just a lucky anomaly!
I certainly hope this filter would last. YMMV!
one tip is to use copious amounts of Teflon tape in the inlet and outlet. mine leaked at first then i removed and added more tape and it's fine now. the instructions say to only use a little. the key is to use a GOOD coating then not to over tighten.
So, I am still using my old housing and just have this stored in case I need it in the future.
