I honestly didn't know about this song until WWE Superstar CM Punk came out with it ,as his theme song, at Monday Night Raw. Although, CM Punk used this song during his Ring of Honor days back in the mid-2000s. Pretty good lyrics from the Band and a very catching song. Now, I'm listening to the song all day long and not getting tired of it.

Good guitar work, good musicianship, powerful vocals. And a certainly unintended prescient message about the "cult of personality" that grows around certain public leaders, be it the originals (Stalin, Kim Jong Il), Reagan (about whom it was allegedly written), or Obama (who certainly fits the song's lyrics "Nobel Prize..." and all)

This hit single from the early 90's is still a relevant song today due to WWE superstar CM Punk. If it wasn't for watching WWE today, I would have forgotten all about this song and I'm glad to hear it again!

I remember first hearing the rock song Cult of Personality when I was around 8 or 9 years old (via both tv and radio). During the past few years I have also heard this song every now and then via the radio (with most recently hearing it via iheart radio). I reluctantly confess to not yet fully understanding the deep meaning of Cult of Personality by Living Colour and many times enjoying more for the music, the unique lyrics, and the speech at the end. I looked through both songfacts and song meanings to interpret that the song could have a meaning to avoid listening and illogically believing everything you read either via media and/or popular and/or charismatic people and to instead strive to more frequently rely on your own intuition and logic.

This is a song from a band that made an immediate and intense impact for all the right reasons. They had a powerful stage presence, excellent musicianship and powerful lyrics delivered by an intense vocalist. It's sad that they didn't last longer as their sales taled off with the second release and they eventually faded away. This song hits you with epic guitar work, a heavy yet catchy Zeppelinesque riff and drums/bass that raise the roof. The lyrics, however, may actually deliver the hardest blow. They get to the heart of the spell cast by the world and social leaders named (e.g. Gandhi, Kennedy, Stalin, etc.). They are not necessarily all bad but they are not gods by any means and largely those named used their star power to influence and to greater or lesser degrees manipulate, indoctrinate, condition and in some cases destroy their "audience". I see a needed warning here to cast a wary eye on any leader and check out the facts vs. the claims. The behavior and legacy of the power elites in this nation over the last ? number of years attest to this sad phenomenon. That includes the contrived illusion of left, right, conservative, liberal, etc. The current state of affairs in the USA attest to the fact that nothing has been learned from the wisdom of "Cult of Personality" in the last 20+ years. Dig the excellent music but get the message or there very well may not be 20+ more years to get it! Thanks.

I really liked this song when it first came out. Recently the talk radio show I listen to has been using it to lead in after commercial breaks, and it got stuck in my head, so I downloaded it. It reminds me of our current president, for some reason........ Vernon Reid rocks the guitar in this!

I heard professional wrestler Phil Brooks aka "CM PUNK" return to World Wrestling Entertainment using this as his new entrance theme song. I was hooked from the moment I heard it. I downloaded the song as soon as the show ended. I love the lyrics and the song sounds great.
