Product Description

Why choose Cultures for Health?

Our story
Cultures for Health is a small business that started as a side-project in our founder's living room. We have since grown into a thriving company that offers high-quality products and service to our customers all over the world. We foster a supportive, innovative work environment for our employees because happy people make happy starter cultures. We also strive to build a sense of community within the world of fermentation and home cooking, and we can’t wait for you to be a part of it!

World class, lifetime customer support
We truly care about our customers, and it shows! Buy with confidence knowing that we look forward to connecting with you as you become part of the Cultures for Health family. Every email, chat, and phone call that reaches our desk gets answered in a timely fashion, and all of our staff have tons of hands-on experience working all our products in their daily lives. You can do this!

The Easy Process

  • Heat 1 quart of pasteurized whole milk to 160-180°F; cool to a safe culturing temperature of 110°F.
  • Pour your cooled milk into a glass or plastic container and add the starter culture directly from the packet; mix thoroughly.
  • Cover the mixture, and incubate it at 110°F for 5-12 hours in a yogurt maker or similar appliance.
  • Once set, cover and allow to cool for 2 hours at room temperature.
  • Refrigerate for at least 6 hours to allow yogurt to continue to set. Thickening may take up to 24 hours.
  • Save 1-3 Tbsp of yogurt to use as the starter for your next batch!

Thick, creamy, and decadent Greek-style yogurt is easy to make at home for a fraction of the cost of commercial varieties. Beyond the superior consistency, Greek-style yogurt contains more protein per ounce (due to the removal of a large portion of the whey) and can be used in place of sour cream in most recipes.

Our Greek yogurt starter culture is a Thermophilic, so it cultures well at 110°F. There are many easy ways to culture yogurt at home! You can use appliances like a standard yogurt maker or a crock pot. Our cultures also work well with the Instant Pot, or even in your oven (as long as it can hold the low, slow and steady temperature needed for culturing.

The Cultures for Health Greek Yogurt Starter Culture is a probiotic-rich, heirloom variety that produces a pleasant tartness and a signature creamy texture. Try it in smoothies, savory yogurt-based dressings, or frozen in Greek-style frozen yogurt for a healthy and satisfying snack.
