Absolutely brilliant! I love this book. This book is revolutionary; it gave me a paradigm shift.
In a time where porn addictions, divorces, and unhappy, sexless, or erratic relationships seem to be the norm, and where people feel more disconnected from each other than ever before in our society, it appears to me that Marnia has figured out where we have gone wrong, and has discovered the antidote.
CPA will transform your views regarding sex, relationships, orgasm, masturbation, and how to be the best lover you can be. Then it gives you the practical steps to apply this new information. The main topic in this book is about the sexual practice of karezza, and the benefits to a relationship and to oneself of practicing karezza and cultivating one’s sexual energy.
If you want to be a better lover and have an amazing relationship (now or in the future), Cupid's Poisoned Arrow is a must-read.
If you want lasting attraction and affection with a partner after the "honeymoon stage" of a relationship, Cupid's Poisoned Arrow is a must-read. She brilliantly explains why passion falls, and gives the solution.
The message in this book is so unknown to the public... yet so needed. This book is a hidden gem. It’s honestly sad how underground these ideas are because so many people would benefit from learning. I have a feeling the concepts in this book will go viral in society in about 10 years as more people discover this.
I read this book when single. I highly recommend this book for both people in relationships and single people. Women or men. Young or old. Whoever you are, READ THIS BOOK! :)
There is a little spirituality in this book, which I really enjoyed. Atheists, don't let that deter you. There is lots of science in Cupid and it's a practical read. I recommend this book to everyone. You may have to read a few parts of this book with an open mind and nonjudgemental attitude as these concepts are currently outside of mainstream consciousness.
About 2/3 of the way through, the book does start to feel a bit repetitive. I feel the author really wanted to hammer the message in, especially because these ideas are so underground. But the message of the book is so brilliant, important, unique, and life-changing this is a very easy 5/5. The end is great too because it gives a practical guide.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and feel it transformed my life forever in a positive, healthy, and more loving way. This book connected so many dots for me about sexuality and relationships. I've actually read it 2.5x now. I believe that if more people read this book the world will become a much better and more harmonious place. I hope you give it a read!

Review
“[This book] seriously challenges conventional ‘wisdom’ about human sexual interactions. It is as antithetical to modern cultural beliefs about sexual behavior as Galileo’s treatise was to astronomy. In Galileo’s time the earth (like the orgasm) was thought to be the incontestable center of the universe. Marnia Robinson’s hypothesis might result in much needed navigational improvements for modern family relationships.”
—A.J. Reid Finlayson, MD, Division of Addiction Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
“Marnia Robinson brings neuroscience into the bedroom, revealing how biology creates projection and separation. She provides a solution that will not only pleasantly surprise you, but will profoundly change your life. This is a must-read for anyone wanting to know love.”
—Kali Wendorf, founder of Australia’s Kindred magazine and contributing editor of the anthology Belonging
“I can honestly say that I have never read a more accessible and well laid out description of the brain’s reward circuitry. Combine that with the experiential, practical, and spiritual dimensions of Cupid’s Poisoned Arrow, and it is virtually impossible to walk away from it without the feeling that Marnia Robinson really is on to something significant in the field of human relationships and sexual behavior.”
—Russell Razzaque, MD, psychiatrist, London, England
“Cupid’s Poisoned Arrow is a skillful blend of understandable science, informative personal reports and light-hearted humor, which make for enjoyable, thought-provoking reading. Between its chapters, curious readers will also find intriguing essays about various traditions (Taoism, Christianity, Buddhism, cortezia, karezza, etc.). These reveal little known, and often remarkable, clues about the hidden potential that lies in our sexual relationships.”
—HopeDance

Yes, it's a good book and definitely worth reading. Yes, as the author explains, the unbridled pursuit of sexual satiety/orgasm is at the root of much discontent and mystery in relationships. Couldn't agree more with the author's conclusions. Well done.
But.
I give the book a 3 star rating because it is so oppressively repetitive. After the first few chapters I found myself impatiently flipping past many pages, looking for some new material to digest. I got tired of hearing about her husband Will and his problems.
This is a 355 page book that could easily be trimmed down to about half that size. Very fluffy. I mean, what part of semen retention did you not understand?

Robinson presents an interesting idea, but this book is lacking in several areas. First of all, the writing is extremely repetitive. Each point or argument is repeated AT LEAST three or four times. It gets a little tiresome for the reader. I found finishing the book challenging to finish because of this. Once I got about halfway through the book, I found that I was not reading any new information. Secondly, Robinson does not address any counterarguments in the book. This is a vital element in crafting a strong argument. It is very easy to assert that you are right if you do not seriously consider the best arguments from the other side. Finally, I found the personal anecdotes incredulous. These claims presented non-orgasmic sex as a wonder drug and cure-all. This may be some people's "lived experience," but it is a little irresponsible to include them in such a number in a book that purports to be scientific. Mixing these spectacular anecdotes alongside with hard scientific information is manipulative.
I think Robinson's thesis is worth exploration and consideration, but the presentation is problematic and misleading.

After reading this book, you will never look at sex the same again. You will never look at orgasm the same again. You will never look at dopamine the same again. I stopped the practice of porn, masturbation, and orgasm (nofap) about a month ago and feel incredible. The only reason I was able to go this far was because of this book. I plan to make it a lifelong discipline. It is incredibly life changing. I have a renewed sense of cuddling, bonding, and seeing women in a completely more selfless angelic light. It has helped me increase my confidence, general self control, and has attracted the most beautiful women into my life that I never imagined would be into me. All this from a simple, yet deeply thorough book on orgasm & bonding. PLEASE READ THIS BOOK WETHER OR NOT YOU ARE SINGLE, MARRIED, DIVORCED, OR DATING. It will honestly upgrade you life in ways that will shock you.

I haven't had a libido in 6 years yet I frequently dream of being unfaithful to my partner of 8 years, the love of my life. This book might finally be the answer doctors and therapists couldn't give me. It's not an abnormality. It's biology.
This might save my sex life and improve my relationship. Time will tell.

I wish I had read this book 10 years ago
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 3, 2018Verified Purchase
This book is a game changer. I’ve spent most of my late teens and early twenties on a hedonic treadmill, particularly when it comes to my sex-life. This has led to numerous addictions and compulsions. 10 years later, dozens of romantic relationships and close to a hundred books read on relationships, psychology, science and spirituality - I kept coming back to the same vicious circle. After accidentally stumbling on the reuniting.info website, I had finally seen the elusive obvious. This book presented all the answers I was seeking. Nowhere else was I able to find the meticulous synergy between cutting edge neuroscience and wisdom of the old ages, as in the passages of this book. Both my wife and I have read the book page to page and started implementing the lessons from it, with transformative results. It’s a must read for anyone who wants to be in a successful relationship. I’ve already advised all my close friends and relatives to add it as the next item on their reading lists. This book, more than any in recent times, has shown me the true power of love and bonding with our fellow human beings. Thank you, Marnia Robinson.

A hugely informative book combining ancient wisdom with the latest neuroscience. This is life-changing stuff and extremely pertinent in a culture obsessed by orgasm-focused sex. You might be thinking is there any other? There certainly is, and much more satisfying.
My only small gripe as others have stated is that it needed a good editor to cut out the repetitions. But on the plus side, it helps for memory retention, so it's not so bad.

Ignore the superficial (and sometimes inaccurate) articles written in the national press about Karezza. I must point out that karezza is NOT tantric sex and it is NOT about avoiding intercourse. You can find bettter information on the author's site or better yet, read this book. I write this review having read the book a few months ago and I can confidently say that Marnia Robinson changed my husband's and my own focus from conventional orgasm-driven sex to bonding behaviours (including lovemaking).
Read this book if you want to know:
- Why sex never seems to solve relationship problems, even though it might be mindblowing.
- What orgasm, in particular, does to the neurochemistry of your brain. How porn, masturbation and feelings of love/closeness are tied in to this.
- Why the various practices that are similar to karezza are also different in important ways, e.g. tantric sex etc.
- Karezza is independent of how much or how less you want sex so it works even though one of you in the relationship wants sex more than the other. Indeed, those who tend to not want it are greatly relieved by this approach and usually want to be closer as a result!
- How the concept of karezza may actually be thousands of years old.
- How the neurochemistry and 'craving' behind seeking sex ties in with other activities that might be addictive.
- About the tug-of-war in the brain between the need for evolutionary driven sex (the goals of which are orgasm and as many offspring as possible) and the need for bonding behaviours (with/without intercourse) which promotes wellbeing and happiness in relationships.
I can also now understand why 'sex sells' in advertising and how advertising exploits the same neurochemical pathways in all of us.
Robinson intersperses science with history so the book never becomes tedious. The science is explained in a very readable way with helpful diagrams and I also found the "wisdom of the ages" mini chapters extremely interesting. Personally, I would love if she wrote more about the history/wisdom in a future book.
I must admit, she only gets to the method towards the end of the book and even halfway through I was getting impatient to know 'how to do' karezza. However, having read the whole book I can understand why she does this.
If you're unsure about buying this book, go to her website, which is what I did previously. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Interesting approach, alternative to current vision of relationship
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 28, 2013Verified Purchase
Relationships are hard especially in today times when the break ups and divorce rates are on the rise. The author presents quite unusual explanation for that the orgasm is the proverbial Cupid's Poisoned Arrow that is the beginning of the end in the union of man and woman. What goes up must come down, that is the message conveyed in the book. Soon one gets bored with the other and looks outside the relationship for the new high.
The author proposes alternative approach - making love without the focus on escalation of energy resulting in finale, but rather celebrating intimacy and closeness in a relaxed way - the method called karezza. There is an attempt to explain why this way of acting works and actually bonds couple instead leading to inevitable seperation as explained above and it sounds plausible.
It's definitely worth giving it (at least book ;) a go if only just to learn about different way of looking at relationships as opposed to current consensus that drawing on sexual energy is harmless and only provides benefits to our lives. The book also explains to some extent the science behind why we feel in certain way towards others and what drives that, which makes it a worthwhile read.
