After switching to a high vegetable/fat, moderate protein diet last month, I stopped defecating on a consistent basis. This didn't make sense to me, given that supposedly vegetables are high in fiber, and ought to aid in digestion, right? Wrong. In the first chapter of Dr. Jones' book, he points out that vegetables are actually NOT that high in the fiber that may aid in digestion, hence the reason my bowels are stopped up, despite the healthy changes. Here was something I hadn't known before, so I continued to read on.
Although there is dispute as to the effectiveness of the fiber approach for constipation, it does work for many. But it IS possible to take too much, further exacerbating the issue at hand. That being said, not only has Jones put together a detailed week-by-week fiber therapy program (exact amounts of fiber necessary per week, the best fiber supplements, and the healthiest types of laxatives), but he also has constructed it with the goal in mind to PERMANENTLY strengthen the bowels. Some of Jone's patients, as illustrated through his periodic anecdotes, have managed to ween off of their daily/weekly laxatives after working through his program. A lot of these patients, of all ages, had dealt with constipation for months or years on end up until working with him.
The secret lies in how much or little fiber to take at a time, and when it is time to incorporate a laxative (even on a daily basis). Jones explains how to judge these necessary measures, and by following the program this way, your bowels will be healthy, not just empty. This is in accordance with what Jones has said in his book (and he explains the how/why behind everything)
Jone's writing style is engaging, a bit humorous, and he shares some medical knowledge without boring mumbo-jumbo. I finished the book in a few hours, and given that he provided the name of EVERY recommended fiber supplement/laxative, it was easy to jump right into the program. I did, and I had a nice defecation the next morning.
I followed Dr. Wes Jones protocol exactly and saw results within days. Now I'm using the restroom 2-3x a day without any complications. I'm so thankful that Dr. Jones decided to write this book and to publish this fiber therapy program. I'm thankful for the healing and recommended this book to other chronic sufferers.
