I will admit there were times I did not like Savannah. I felt she could not see the truth because she had blinders on when it can to her friend. In fact there were a few times she made me angry. But, Micah was my heart. It was a joy to read about him. Even though he was a tortured soul he shined the most in this story. His capacity to love in spite of all the pain was beautiful.
I believe the author did an excellent job of making me feel the emotions of these characters. I felt I could relate to Savannah and Micah. Micah was the character I understood the most and I fell in love with him.
Most romances are told from the heroine's perspective, but this novel is told mostly from the hero's perspective and I believe that makes it unique.
Micah had told Savannah she would come begging to him first, and that’s how he views the text message until he gets to the hospital. He didn’t think that after three years his heart would still have the same reaction to her. But it’s hard to forgive her refusal to believe in him or her abandonment.
I found the content of Micah and Savannah’s story to be excellent. However, the mechanics were lacking. Two words were put together as one 30 times, and one word had a space in it, making it look like two words, about 5 times or more. Adjectives were used where adverbs were needed, such as “clear” for “clearly” and “bad” for “badly.” Savannah’s wavering between loving Micah and despising him went on for much too long. In addition, the cover is all wrong, since Micah is described with long blond hair and a sprinkling of freckles. Although some of these errors were distracting or annoying, the content is much more important to me than the mechanics. Overall, I loved the story and liked knowing the main characters inner thoughts so thoroughly. I gave it 4.5 stars, which rounded up to a five.
I was given an Advanced Readers Copy of this book by the author. All thoughts and comments in this review are my own.
When the story opens in a hospital in Tawas, Michigan, things are looking bleak for the heroine, Savannah “Saavy” Woods and her niece, Liliana whom she has guardianship over. Liliana has suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns from a fire at her daycare.
Savannah, a former model, now works as an image consultant. As she waits for her parents to join her at the hospital and her two best friends, she realizes that there is one person she must have by her side to help her and her niece get through this ordeal –even though she hasn’t seen nor talked to him in three years. That person is Dr. Micah Reddington, her ex fiancé. Strange as it may seem, it only takes three words for Micah to drop everything, and go to Tawas, those three words, “ I need you.” Before I go any farther, I must remind you that this is a Parker J. Cole story, and although it is a ‘sweet romance’, there are some bizarre moments that are woven into the story. I won’t reveal any spoilers, but I will say that the reason for the heroine and hero’s 3 year breakup is a dead woman, and I will leave that right there.
Will Liliana recover from her burns? Will Nascha (the dead woman) continue to be Micah’s nemesis from the grave? And what does the FBI want with Micah? Well, to get the answer to these questions, I highly recommend that you get the book, a sweet romance with a lot of drama.
An easy, engaging read!
