I liked this book because of these friendships and Kathleen's being accepted and loved by these new neighbors. But mostly I enjoyed the cats because they are magical. Yes, you have to air of suspension of disbelief to accept their magical ability. But it is not too overdone. (In other words, it's not like a fairytale.) I am looking forward to reading more books where Kathleen solves mysteries with the help of her unusual cats
I'm also impressed with all the varied characters that come into the stories. Interstingly, these stories are also educational. I learn little tidbits as I go along. This is my favorite series tied with Diesel and his owner, also a librarian. Given you can only produce one book per year, there's more than enough room in the world for more than 2 perfect series where one or more of the chief characters are cats or dogs.
I'll write more as I reread each book as I wait for the most recent to be published.
This story has the usual heroine who cannot wait for the police to do their job. Her care and concern for her friends and neighbors leads her to follow up on her hunches and suspicions. Her general honesty and good humor do little to prepare her for the dangers of snooping.
Throw in a couple of magical cats and a handsome, single detective, and you've the recipe for a satisfying read.
