I've been a coin and paper money collector for awhile and love it as a hobby, but this book provides a great insight into the world of barter currencies. It provides insight as to why items such as cigarettes were used as a form of money and also mentions more unique barter items such as beads or knives which were also commonly used to acquire items. As a person that enjoys collecting money I found this book both interesting and fun as I learned about all of these different forms of barter items, some of which were still circulating while I've been alive and/or that are still in use today.

+Good variety of items covered, from beads to weapons to candy
+Great images, many of which so the item at it's actual size
+Well written and easy to follow as well as the different items were organized well

-A few of the items could have used a little more info on how or why they were prized as barter

This is a must have reference book if you are interested in coins and currency. The quality of the print is superb and the content is very colorful and dynamic. I would recommend this book for kids and adults, as it's very easy to read and it's comprehensive enough at the same time. Definitely a great value for my currency!!

Very good for a popular book. A little more scholarly detail would have been useful. The photographs are excellent.
