Aussi connu sous le nom de The Vintagent, il sait à peu près tout sur les motos, depuis 1869 jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Il est chroniqueur pour Cycle World et Classic Bike Guide et il est également l’auteur de The Chopper : the Real Story (Gestalten). D’Orléans est par ailleurs commissaire de l’exposition Custom Revolution au Petersen Museum à Los Angeles.

    Paul d’Orléans is a writer and photographer living in San Francisco and San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. He is also a globally recognized expert on the history of motorcycles and motorcycle cultures. His website TheVintagent.com has been the gold standard for motorcycle writing since 2006. Paul curates major exhibits at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles (Electric Revolutionaries, ADV:Overland, Silver Shotgun, Electric Revolution, and Custom Revolution), is a TV commentator on NBCSN, and the host of the Quail Motorcycle Gathering. He has been an esteemed judge for ten years at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Paul co-founded the Motor/Cycle Arts Foundation (a 501c3) to support young geniuses, and arts and exhibitions around motorcycle culture. He has written, co-written, and edited many books, and his book of photography with his partner Susan McLaughlin, ‘Longer Ways to Go’ (MotoTintype) will appear in 2023. He has produced many films, and a new feature documentary ‘A Film Interrupted’ will be finished in 2024.

This is sort of a „look book“, a collection of photos of electric vehicles in the Tesla era, along with brief corporate histories and vehicle stats. The vehicles depicted are in almost every case either CG-rendered concept vehicles, one-off customs, or the product of since-bankrupt startups. Many of the developers had gone out of business before this book was even published, and more have failed since. So don’t look to this as a survey of vehicles you can actually buy, but take it as a review of the creativity of vehicle designers at one moment in recent history.

The book is a well presented and easily read series of case studies and presentations into the potential direction of electrical two wheel vehicles. It covers a number of thought provoking topics such as the future commercialisation of products especially things such as positive disruptive advertising and how the target audience potentially differs from current petrol vehicles.

It does not offer direct technical specifications and design advise as these can be obtained from the various existing listed company websites.

I would recommend this book for anyone wanting a general overview and an insight into the form of transport
