Selecting a Current Probe on Amazon.com
A current probe is a common accessory for a digital multimeter or oscilloscope. It measures current, and consists of a sensor and a cable with a connector to plug into the electrical testing device. An AC/DC current probe measures both AC and DC current, while an AC-only probe can only measure AC current. Factors to consider when choosing a current probe include the current range to be measured and the shape of the probe. Current probes measure in a variety of ranges, from as low as 1 milliamp to 2000 amp. The current probe’s sensor may be a current clamp, a clothes-pin style clip, or a flexible cable. Current probes are used by electricians to troubleshoot and maintain industrial, commercial, or residential electrical systems, and by technicians designing and building electronic equipment. Manufacturers include Tektronix and Fluke.
