Shelone gets a second chance at love and freedom, but loses both when her 2nd husband tries to protect her and her children. One day Shelone saw something she shouldn’t have seen, which causes the slave owner’s wife Sarah to do everything she can to keep Shelone unhappy. When Sarah succeeds, she causes Shelone to lose touch with reality and get revenge. The tables are turned and the plantation is never the same for anyone “Curse the Cotton”.
Even though this writing was fiction, because of the setting and the time period, I felt like I was reading a real experience of a slave. It was a very good and an interesting story.
I am an avid reader of all of Mirika Mayo Cornelius books: “I Thought I Was Alone 1 and 2”, “First Degree Sins” “Ain’t Quite What I Thought 1 and 2” , “Colored Lily”, “Paton” to name a few. “Curse the Cotton” is another master piece.
