Throw the whole city of Lazarus away! I was blown away by this book. The author touched on a very sensitive topic that most people like to turn a blind eye to. Although this book has been out for some time, the subject matter is still relevant. So many stories have been coming out lately regarding abuse of power and adults taking advantage of minors. It is so easy to say what you would or wouldn't do in certain situations...until you experience it first hand. I think the author did a great job telling this story and I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.

A bazaar, disturbing, sick novel that had me questioning the authors psyche and life experiences which caused him to write such a dark twisted story on sexual abuse of boys and men. It seemed the author wanted to parallel the life of Lazarus with Sodom and Gomorrah. The story lacked substance and logic. It focused on homophobia, the hypocrisy of church going people and leaders of both the church and the community. It was filled with murder and mayhem of not only the main characters, but also most of the ancillary characters without the reader having enough knowledge about any of them to fully comprehend justification for murder and not prison or some other form of punishment. It seemed the author seeked a cathartic means to an end by killing everyone. Very deprived book, would not recommend. Was quite difficult to get through.

However the theme focus of the injustice and discrimination against young males, in a rural area in the state of Alabama.The book brings alive, the taboo subject of rape. This occurs among people of power who abuse children.
The author writes a book that allows the victims to demand their quest for justice. Emphasis is place on the moral and legal responsibility of others, who has done nothing about the epidemic of the young being sexually abuse.
I recommend this book, for those who have a open mind.

This book was off the chain. Wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it sure wasn't what I read. So many truths as to how we tend to overlook life's issues. We turn our heads or say it's not my problem. When in reality, it is. The town secrets affected so many lives, all behind one house. So many twist, turns, surprises. I really enjoyed it. I didn't want it to end. Can wait for the next book.

Reading The Curse of the Whiskey House was much like a roller coaster ride. You never knew what was coming next a curve or a long drop to keep you at the edge of your seat. The author tackles a very hot but mostly secretive topic assuredly one that no one wants to discuss. It leaves you wondering, will we always overlook the elephant in the room? I am also appreciative of the history that was integrated into the story. This was a great story, although I must admit there are scenes that are tough to read.
