I received a free advanced copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. Though not my genre of choice, I enjoyed the characters and their interactions. The plot line involving Zoey’s friend Delphina was well written and provided a good bit of suspense and surprise. I especially liked the tiger and was happy she survived, though it would be criminal to destroy a rare animal like, Zia. Overall, the story was good and I would certainly recommend it to anyone who enjoys paranormal mysteries.
Obviously the author is hoping that the readers won’t ask any questions while reading the book. It’s like they read Harry Potter and tried to follow the same formula: orphan, living with hateful aunt and uncle, finds out s/he has magic, and is taken to secret magic school by magical person; there s/he discovers dark plot, saves the day, and ends the book talking to wise teacher in infirmary followed by a jaunty chat with new friend. It’s the same story arc but without any reason or thought, just a bunch of bright flashes of colors and altercations to distract you from the whirling nothingness, plus a magical white tiger. ...honestly the tiger was the best part and the reason for the second star. I feel like the only redeeming quality of this book is getting to rant about it in the review. ....and the tiger.
