Hannah owns and operates a B&B in Key West, FL. She also conducts "Ghost Tours" of the island because she happens to be closely acquainted with several spirits who have not passed on from this earth but aren't quite alive, either. And so, in this installment we come to know the former Melody Chandler and her paramour Hagen Dundee. Melody and Hagen are star-crossed lovers who have died but not yet departed and choose to reside in Hannah's B&B, which is Melody's former home.
When an undercover cop, Jose Rodriguez, is murdered in the back alley of the B&B, scaring Hannah's guests past their ability to cope, we are introduced to Agent Dallas Samson, FBI. An Agent who is immediately suspicious of the proximity of his friends death and the B&B and the fact that Hannah had literally stumbled over the body.
If I continue, I'll spoil the story and you won't read the book. Please give yourself a treat and do so. I don't think you will be disappointed. Certainly you won't be bored.
The difference in this book & some of the others in this series is that at least four of the characters not only hear the ghosts trying to help them solve the murder but they can all see the ghosts as well.
As the bodies pile up, the team tries to locate Wolf, the bad guy. I did figure out who Wolf was a couple of chapters before the book ended but it seemed to end rather quickly. The romance between Dallas & Hannah never did heat up. Overall, I would say this wasn't one of the best of the series. It was a okay read but I am hoping the next book, The Hexed, will be more like the earlier ones.
The best part though - is that not only is it a Krewe of Hunters book (so we get to see two Krewe members) but since it's set in Key West we also get to visit with three characters from previous books set there too. I don't know about other people but I love seeing favourite characters again in subsequent books! Lol at one point this book has SEVEN people who can see ghosts and FIVE ghosts in the same place. It's practically a convention :)
I skipped the bits giving us the history of Robert the Doll etc - she's already told those stories in other books.
Overall - an average Graham book worthy of three stars - but a bonus star for the reunion of so many well liked characters.
Now, don't get me wrong, I am a fan. Sure, the basic structure of the books is the same, but I still enjoy the mystery, still like finding out whodunit. Still love the addition of good spirits. This book was no different, either in style or my enjoyment. No extreme feats of writing, but still pleasurable for a day or two reading.
And I can honestly say this time that I had the big baddie wrong! That's always a bonus, to be surprised even a little.
