Being a somewhat curvy girl myself, I enjoy reading books about women who shockingly manage to live happily and fully even though they are *gasp* overweight. (I know, right? Like that ever happens in "real life"? //eyeroll) While I really loved the premise of this book (group of fluffy girls meet at a weight loss support group, forge friendships over time, decide to learn to love themselves as they are with or without weight loss, form a fun group for fatties that has nothing to do with weight loss and is focused on having fun at any size) (and I use the word "fatties" with nothing but love and respect, before anyone climbs on the PC train and decides to bash me... that's how my chunky girlfriends and I refer to ourselves affectionately) I was disappointed that the heroine had to lose weight during the course of the book to feel normal. I get that there was a point to that... that she was being somewhat hypocritical in starting a group for overweight people and then dropped 40 lbs due to circumstances beyond her control and *SPOILER ALERT* boffed the man of her dreams.
I also didn't really care for the other main characters. They were not particularly likeable; Pixie, in particular, was hard to give two craps about because her personality was so abrasive and combative. In general, the only characters that were relatable were Rob and the main character, whose name I can't for the life of me remember right this second. (ACK!!!)
It was a fun and easy book to read and there were some really excellent points made regarding the feelings and emotions of overweight people. (However, 30 and 40 lbs overweight isn't exactly heifer-status, contrary to how the book makes it seem.

Insightful and thought-provoking, The Curvy Girls Club by Michele Gorman is a heartwarming novel of friendship. It is a also an incredible story that provides an honest look into body image that is humorous but also quite poignant.

Katie, Ellie, Jane and Pixie’s are at different places in their lives, but the one commonality between them is their struggle to lose weight. The novel’s narrator, Katie, and her co-worker and friend Ellie have been overweight all of their lives while Jane and Pixie have been unable to shed the weight they gained after childbirth. Discouraged by their lack of progress at their weight loss support meeting, Katie suggests they get together outside the group and do something fun and uplifting. When word of their extracurricular activities spreads, the four agree to formalize their events and The Curvy Girls Club is born. As their membership grows and the workload increases, Katie and Pixie earn a small salary but when Katie suddenly begins to lose weight, the four friends are at odds over her role in their enterprise.

All of the women are well-developed and they each face difficult obstacles over the course of the novel. Katie’s career is threatened by the downturn in the economy and her crush on a co-worker has unintended consequences on both her professional and personal lives. Ellie is in the throes of a new romance but her insecurities threaten the promising relationship. Pixie’s marriage has been troubled for quite some time and the women are growing increasingly concerned for her safety. Jane will do anything to regain her pre-pregnancy figure, even if it means endangering her health.

With The Curvy Girls Club, Michele Gorman tackles a difficult subject with sensitivity. The plot is well-executed, realistic and refreshingly honest.

I wonder if anyone really realizes how "curvy" women and men feel--how totally insecure--how angry. I know I have been curvy most of my life and it gets real old real quick when people tell you "what a pretty face you have--but don't you think you could lose a few pounds?" It is actually the same for women and men who are too skinny. Most times it is the constant yo yo dieting that keeps us heavy--but we all keep trying, sometimes to our detriment.

Well in this novel that hit home a bit too close for me. 4 curvy friends decide to quit a skinny club and start one of their own where everyone could possibly feel better about themselves. All four of these friends have psychological problems due mostly to their body image and it shows in the way they react to others. When one of them suddenly loses weight for no apparent reason suddenly she is made to feel bad about it! Now there is a medical reason--and all does work out happily in the end.

Prejudice comes in many shapes and sizes--This author has actually started a website called the Curvy Girls Club-which if it gets large enough may actually have meetings etc--however I think that will be in England--but one can always hope!

I really did love this novel even if it saddened me a little-there were parts that made me laugh out loud--a 5 STAR for sure.

Well, there was no racy, steamy adult scenes or murder mysteries to solve… but I really, really liked this book.

I am a curvy girl so I could relate to this book and the emotions that came with this book.

There were times I wanted to scream, yell, kick, and wring someone’s neck (and it’s well deserved!)

I love the concept of the Curvy Girls Club and would love to find one or create one where I live because the whole concept is amazing!

The basis of the entire story is 100% spot on and 100% truth.

I would venture to say that mainly women would prefer this book (and you certainly do not need to be curvy to enjoy it), but I think there are some men who would enjoy this too (and spoiler alert, one of the main members to the Curvy Girls Club is a male!)

I would definitely recommend this book to all!

PS: It was quite fun to read a book based in London! I enjoyed learning new terminology!
