I have been needing to get a new wheelchair cushion (in ADDITION to the $500 pneumatic one I currently have) in order to make my life sentence in this rattletrap more bearable. The good folks at FORTEM have come through from what it looks like so far :-). I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that not only do you get the standard "horseshoe" seat cushion, but you also get included, a lumbar support cushion as well. Unless you have a power chair (and I don't have any experience with those YET), you won't find a single manual wheelchair in the world that has any lumbar support at ALL, and if you are like me, weak core, and a little overweight, you need all the help you can get to strengthen what is left of your lower spine. I do my stretches for my back and nerve glides sometimes (when it really hurts mostly), but just knowing that there is a cushion company out there that seems to know what the wheelchair community is needing is just nothing short of awesome! It also looks like, since day one of me using the "horseshoe" cushions, i have been using them wrong. I always thought that the "U" was to be facing away from the wheelchair, not towards the back of the wheelchair. I was wrong. I have noticed already that my pain has diminished a little bit too! This is a great product, helpful in making my cheap desk chair somewhat more comfortable to sit on for longer period of times (see attached picture). While paying a little more for this seat cushion and lumbar support, I did not find myself obliged to pay a lot more for a new high quality chair. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not on par with the best office chairs out there but if you want to save a few bucks and improve comfort, it's worth a try.Reviewed in Canada on May 22, 2020
That being said, the lumbar support does slide off quite a bit, which forces me to adjust it every single time. It works better on straight rectangular/square seats than round ones. Also note the importance of putting the closed side of the seat cushion on the front side of the chair, I had been using it the other way around for quite a while before realizing it which initially made it quite uncomfortable.
It does not cure any preexisting condition but it does improve comfort to a certain extent. Overall, good product for the price and what it's meant to do.
