Unbelievably strong synthetic odor

I have a lot of gadgets, and I use (and lose) more than my fair share of cases. So, it's safe to say I'm no stranger when it comes to the unique fragrance of neoprene and other synthetic plastics and rubbers. And yet, this case has, by far, the strongest, most persistent chemical smell of anything I've ever used. I've run it through my washing machine (as another reviewer suggested), and tried hand-scrubbing it with dish soap, laundry detergent, kitchen cleaner, and every other cleaning solution I could get my hands on. Still, the smell remains strong enough to taint my kindle, my hands, the bag I carry it in, and everything it touches.

I'm not a sensitive person when it comes to this sort of thing, either. The amount of purely positive reviews for this sleeve makes me think that the manufacturer might have different batches of materials, maybe? If this thing didn't burn my eyes, I could see how it'd be a wonderful case: perfect fit, great stitching, thin, tough material. But, given how unbearable it's been carrying this sleeve around, it boils down to a 1-star trip to the dumpster.

WASH ME !!!... before using.

For the price, this case is perfect to toss you kindle in your bag or bed without fearing it breaking. Even then folks... don't toss you kindle. I broke my first one easily.

I haven't dropped my kindle with the case yet so I can't say for sure it will protect it from a fall.

PLEASE PLEASE wash it before using it. I think I read another review where the buyer said it smelled like chemicals... YES IT DOES!!!!

I flipped it inside out and washed it once ... TADA!!! smell went away and it didn't shrink or lose any color.

It's made of neoprene, so it SMELLS like neoprene, but not to the extent that some reviewers have noted. I can only smell it when I put my nose close up to it.

This sleeve is made of a nice elastic material. Kindle is easy to take out but at the beginning I fould it a little difficult to put it back in. Trick is to flip the top cover 180 and hold it with one hand, while you use the other to put the kindle in the sleeve.

This case is probably the cheapest that you can find for the kindle. So I guess the fraying at the seams within a month of use is par for the course. Don't expect to receive a beautiful or sturdy product. Buy this if you're just looking for a cheap case that would provide at least some protection (although not for very long).
