The only thing I don't care for is that the metal on/off knob, and the temperature control knob get very hot to the touch. Oher than that, it is one of the best hotplates I've owned. It also has an attractive, clean looking design.
The company is great to work with. The product stopped working after 4 or 5 months. I contacted them through Amazon, and they responded immediately, and sent another one, which is on it's way right now. The tracking number they sent me shows exactly when it will arrive.
The drawback is that when the water in the distiller is at room temperature, and it's full, it takes nearly 3 hours to heat to the boiling point...however...it does get there and then maintains nicely.
It's nice looking enough that I don't mind having it on my counter.
(ONE) Like they said...the first time I used it, it smelled AWFUL. Like, I had to text my neighbors and tell them not to call the fire department. There was smoke coming out from the bottom and the knobs. It was A LOT and it was GROSS. Even with the warnings in the package, I still freaked out and unplugged it and got my fire extinguisher and stood by. When I got up the courage to try again, it still smoked for the next few hours, but not as bad and slowly decreased. Now it's fine and doesn't do this at all. So just be prepared...it's bad, but it does go away.
(TWO) The entire burner gets hot, not just the cooking surface (at least under my use case), so you have to be very careful what's around it. For me, this isn't a big deal, but I see how it might be for others.
this was a good choice. It was a quality heat source when we needed one.
