The IPM-RSHM custom fit single seat car headrest mount fits the Apple iPad Original. This mount package includes Arkon’s Custom Fit Apple iPad Holder and Single-Seat Headrest Mounting Pedestal. The durable plastic holder is made specifically for the iPad Original, and measures just over 9.56 inches high and 7.47 inches wide. This custom holder does not fit the iPad 4, 3, 2, iPad Air, or iPad mini. The custom holder provides support around the edge of the iPad, and cutouts are provided for easy access to the camera, power button, and power outlet. To install the iPad, just snap the device into the holder. This holder is not compatible with protective cases. The headrest mount is best suited for viewing the iPad by one back seat passenger, and easily and securely attaches to most car or truck’s front or back seat 2-post headrests. For a headrest mount featuring a custom holder for the iPad 4, 3, 2, see Arkon Model IPM3-RSHM. For a headrest mount featuring a custom holder for the iPad Air, see Arkon Model IPARSHM. Both models are available on Amazon.

Let me start out by saying that the product originally did not ship as pictured on Amazon's site. It looks like the arm that hooks up to the headrest is the main difference between what was pictured and what I received. I should also say that from that picture it looked like this was the cleanest and easiest way to mount an iPad holder to the back of headrest in comparison to anything else out there.
The problem is with the design of the product. The bracket that holds the iPad case itself is poorly engineered. At least the materials used are of the wrong or improper quality. After a few days of riding with it, mounted in my car, with the iPad in, the arm and the case separated from each other. From what I can tell the clip with the two prongs that slides into the case that was once part of the arm just broke off. It completely sheared off most likely from the normal bumps and movement which amplify the weight of the iPad when driving around. Simply put the clip was not engineered to withstand the forces which this iPad holder is subject to in a car.
So I did something more ridiculous and sent the item to Arkon for warranty replacement. 2 weeks and $9 plus shipping later and i get a completely new unit. Unfortunately, the same thing happened a few days into it. What a mistake that was.
Otherwise this holds the iPad very securely and we've used it on long roadtrips so that my daughter can watch a show now and then.
What we found was that one of the holders "ball joint" snapped more or less on its own (not even under any strain) from what I suspect to be crappy rubber that lost its elacity after 6 months in my garage. We live in NC so we dont really have crazy shifts in weather, not that a device like this should break in 6 months of non-use under any circumstance.
We paid around $40 each for these so I was pretty pissed off. Couldnt hot glue or crazy glue it back together, so on our trip to NYC in November, we had one kid holding an iPAD for the duration of the 12 hour ride.
I want to contact the seller to see if they'll sell or replace the part with the ball mount but havent found a contact number to call.
Manufacturer replaced the broken components free of charge. Increasing star rating for good customer service and the fact that the replacement piece was slightly different represents a small manufacturing change, so hopefully this problem is solved for good.
1. The mount that goes on the the metal arms of your head rest
2. The part that clips onto the iPad (made out of some stiff cardboard material. It's sturdy enough for its purpose, but it wouldn't be sufficient as a stand alone case)
The clip (with the iPad in it) slides onto the mount, making it easy to attach and detach while sitting in front seat. There are also several ways to turn and swivel the mount so that we were able to turn it slightly toward us parents to change movies or apps and then turn it back to face our children.
I love this product and have recommended it to many people already.
As far as holding the iPad securely, again this is on my Jeep wrangler. I've taken the vehicle over 7" curbs forgetting the holder is back there, never had an issue. However, it has fallen out if not perfectly snapped in!
Well, the iPad holder just snapped and BROKE without any warning landing hard on the floor. Since the brake was right at the ball where this attaches, now its trash.
So, good while it lasted. I agree with others on here. Not a long term solution .
