Clemens' third book covers all aspects of custom thread work. Starting with some general information on layout and a glossary of wrapping terms, it moves on to over 100 patterns for butt wraps developed by rod builders all over the world. The book also contains a section on weaving thread, with some patterns and information on how to develop your own designs. A word of warning, however. This is not a step by step beginner book. I would recommend reading and doing some of the more involved butt wraps in Clemens' Advanced Custom Rod Building before moving on to Custom Rod Thread Art.

This book is great. It has a lot of information other books of its kind simply ignore. There is also another book called Advanced Custom Rod Building, it is also extremely helpful and detailed. They go hand in hand. The Advanced book, has illustrations and takes you step by step. Really a great book to look into.

This book is NOT for the average joe who wants to wrap one of his favorite rods with a custom butt wrap! If you are a novice in the field of rod wrapping this book will be a long way over your head, I know it was over mine. Mr. Clements and his buddies have worked out a list of the patterns and all of the names and sequence of each different wrap, then he assumes that you should already know all the terms he applies to the instructions. Also there are NO COLOR pictures in this book, the only color is used on the front and back covers and of course a color photo of Mr. Clements. All the drawings seem to be hand done and are in black and various shades of gray.

This book is a great read for anyone interested in creating custom rods with thread art! I would, however, appreciate a book with more illustrations and color.

I paid $37 for this book. It is probably worth $5. Simply stated, it is poorly written. As a part of how bad it is written is the fact that it does a terrible job of really explaining the process--exactly why I bought it. This author is on an ego trip about how important he is. I tossed the book to the back of my work area and continued to explore the process on my own in conjuntion with the other rod books I own.

As an Amature rod builder I was looking for somthing different to distinguish my work. This book taught me how to do some of the most difficult wraps.

Good book but no colour what so ever and whatsmore they have shrunk the size of the book down , to try and make more profit, its now an a4 size and small print. Disappointing purchase also. I brought 3 products off amazon and they all pretty much sucked!!!!!

This book is exceptional! It is an encyclopedia of thread patterns that can be wrapped onto a custom fishing rod (or pool cue). Dale Clemens lays out the patterns in a systematic and consistent way making it easy to replicate patterns from simple chevrons to more detailed star and circle patterns.
