I've tried a good many puzzles and brainteasers for the e-ink Kindles, and I haven't seen anything else quite like "Cut the Shapes." The ability to visualize shapes and spatial relationships is the key to solving these puzzles, where the goal is to cut groups of square blocks apart to form two or three identical shapes (although the dissected shapes may have to be rotated or reflected).

The Menu on the Kindle gives several options, including hints if you just can't figure out where to start cutting. The menu also includes a simple, brief tutorial. There are four levels of play: Easy, Medium, Hard, and Master, each with 25 puzzles. Try a few puzzles for each level to get a feel for them. The first few puzzles in each level are relatively simple, but the difficulty ramps up steadily as you play, especially in the Hard and Master levels. All levels are unlocked, so you can attack them in any order you like. The number of stars that you earn by solving a puzzle is determined by how long it took you and how many hints you used.

After a few puzzles, I began to understand some basic strategies. One tip: before you begin, count the number of pieces and divide by two or three, as appropriate, to determine how many pieces will be in the shape you dissect. That one bit of information will help a lot.

I have to say that Cut the Shapes is one of the most unique and addictive puzzle games that I've played on my Kindle. With 100 levels, you'll be playing Cut the Shapes for a while. And you can always go back to levels where you took too much time or used too many hints and try for three stars.

Note: I played Cut the Shapes on a Kindle Paperwhite.

I introduced my mom to the Graburchuk puzzles a few months ago to help her keep her mind stimulated (she also does sudokus and crosswords) as she gets older. I was visiting her last weekend and found that she had discovered a new puzzle of theirs (this one) on her own and she was really enjoying it. I started playing and I loved it. I just bought it for myself so that my kids and I can play. The graphics are great and the puzzles are challenging but they really are solvable if you keep at it. This book is definitely a great way to improve your spatial relations skills. The controls are very easy to use on the Kindle Keyboard, too! If you love puzzles and tangrams, you will love this book!
