Top customer reviews
After some research and found out that all I needed was an antenna and a TV top box. And since I was a Prime member and not a Netflix subscriber, why not just take advantage of the free Prime Video we get?
ENTER AMAZON FIRE TV
As a Prime subscriber, it's a no brainier to get the Fire Stick or the Fire TV. The reason why I went with the Fire TV is because of the Ethernet port and it's faster processor. Since this will be my primary (and only) TV, I wanted it to be fast.
Aside from Amazon Prime Video that I was able to get for free, I loaded the Kodi app and it's addons. This basically supplements any content that Prime Video doesn't have.
As little as I usually watch regular TV channels, this little bugger is a must. It takes the fuzzy out of every channel. It's basically a flat antenna with a 12ft or so cable so you can mount it near your window. They include all the mounting hardware too. Super easy to install with no tools required.
WHO WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS TO?
This is the cable cutting bundle. I would recommend this anybody who is trying to cut back on monthly expenses. It's perfect for students. Perfect for anybody who owns a non-smart TV.

------The Amazon Fire TV-----
Let me start by saying that I am an Amazon products fanatic, and have cherished nearly all their products, especially the Echo. The Fire TV is no less.
**The Setup Box Itself**
The device is relatively small at 10 oz, 4.5" long, 4.5" wide, and 5/8" thick. There is a remote which is included as well (supports voice commands, a little on that later) at that weighs about 2.5 oz and is 6” long, 1.5" wide, 1/2" thick. The setup box is connected to your television via an HDMI cable which IS included in this bundle, and it also plugs into a power outlet on the wall to power it up!
Amazon sets it up for you so you don’t have to do anything. All your account info etc, is already pre-installed just for you. If you are giving this as a gift, you can ask amazon at the checkout page to NOT set it up for you.
It supports 4K streaming and in audio it’s got Dolby Audio, 5.1 surround sound, 2ch stereo, and HDMI audio pass through up to 7.1. What more could you ask for?!
**ALEXA (Voice Control)**
There is a speaker button the remote, and that’s Alexa. You basically have an Echo installed right into the remote and Fire Tv. You can say things like “show me a mystery movie”, and voila, there will be a list of mystery movies, hand-picked by the thousands of Amazon reviewers, as well as data from IMDB (a subsidiary of Amazon). And of course, many regular Alexa tasks such as weather and time etc, also work. This was recently introduced, and here’s why I like it so much: Amazon is constantly working on it to bring new things and abilities to Alexa. Every few weeks there is a big update, and it brings along numerous new features and fixes bugs and such.
** Overall **
If you are looking to buy a setup box, such as an Apple TV (please, NO), Roku etc, trust me, this overpowers them all by a long shot. And if you or however you plan to gift this to has Amazon Prime, they will adore the prime content which comes along with this. It’s almost as big, and just as good as Netflix, but also supports Netflix (if you don’t have Prime). Hulu is also supported. For a complete list of comparison between other devices, you can click here (https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/kindle/dp/2015/848470/famnav/cc-fire-tv-v5.jpg)
And this bundle brings it’s value even better. The second item in this bundle is a n AmazonBasics Ultra Thin Indoor HDTV Antenna with a 50 mile range. If you are looking to cut your TV costs, then this is the way to go. In fact, after getting this bundle, depending on where you live, you might just be able to “cord-cut” completely. Here is what it is: an Antenna such as this takes 5 minutes to set up, and basically gives you access to all the free-to-view and local channels in your area. Again, for some people that’s just a handful, and for some people in bigger cities, it comes to over 50 channels! I’ve been using it for some months now, and I’ve never encountered a single problem. And keep in mind, that if you are looking for premium channels you can always use something cheap like Sling Tv (which - you guessed it - is compatible with the Fire Tv).
So whether you are buying this for yourself or for somebody else, this will be an amazing addition the the house. It’s a big step if not pretty much the only step you have to take to cord-cut, and get rid of all those fees from your service provider. I have this, along with Amazon Prime, and a subscription to sling for like 25 bucks a month. And I’ve never had to look back.
The Amazon Prime Video service is fantastic (and it's included in your Prime membership), and a good alternative or supplement to Netflix. A few years ago I would've been "meh" to Amazon Video, but now that they're more established, have more content, with great sales when it comes to purchasing movies, my opinion has changed (I now own a lot of HD/4K movies that I can watch anywhere and share with my family; it's so convenient!) Amazon Original Series, which features lots of award-winning shows is also a perk of Prime Video. And now, they have this HD TV bundle for you.
This kit comes with:
• Amazon Fire TV + remote, with 4K output [Second Generation] ($99 retail retail)
• AmazonBasics flat HDTV antenna, 35-mile range ($17.99 retail value)
• AmazonBasics HDMI cable, 6-feet ($6.49 retail value)
— FIRE TV —
The Amazon Fire TV has been reviewed at length so please see the reviews there; this review is about this package as a whole. Some of you may already be using an Amazon Fire TV Stick, when it's been offered on sale throughout the year, in which case you've basically used the "lite" version the Fire TV. The Fire TV is the faster, Alexa voice-controlled, AC WiFi, 4K version of the TV Stick.
To watch non-Amazon programming there are apps available for most of the major brands: Netflix, HBO Now, Hulu, etc; please make sure your provider is listed. A majority of you will buy this mainly to use the Prime Video service along with Netflix. (If you're buying this but don't have a Prime membership, that's like buying a Kindle and not buying books for it on Amazon—why? Get a Roku or an Apple TV instead.) There are also game apps available, but honestly, I have video game consoles for that.
— HDTV ANTENNA —
If you don't watch a lot of cable TV, and enjoy your free basic over-the-air network HD channels (like I do), then this antenna is good for you.
This AmazonBasics antenna is nearly the same thing as the Mohu Leaf 30 Indoor HDTV Antenna. The antenna is a great design, and you'll see similar designs with other brands. It's a flat plastic material, and can be stuck or screwed onto a wall or furniture. It's black on one side and white on the other, which gives you options like sticking against a white wall, or next to dark furniture.
This 35-mile range antenna is better if you're closer to a big city with antennas that broadcast nearby. If you're further away from a big city, I would suggest the AmazonBasics Ultra Thin Indoor TV Antenna - 50-mile version. The difference between the 35 and 50 mile version is the 50-mile is powered by an additional USB cable to help amplify TV signals. But, of course, you don't get this package deal.
Since it's omni-directional the antenna doesn't have to face any specific direction, *but* you do have to keep it away from any metal objects; you can't stick this behind your flat-screen HDTV or next to a radiator because it will not work. I recommend a placement high above your head on a wall near a window for the clearest signal.
Setting it up is as easy as going into your TV's antenna settings and doing a signal scan. After it has detected the available signals I suggest you favorite all the ones you plan on watching so that it's easier to change channels. I personally only favorite the HD channels, because why would I watch anything less than HD quality? I have a curved HDTV for goodness sake!
— HDMI CABLE —
This is a good HDMI cable that works fine (and it has molded branding versus a sticker that can come off). As with all HDMI cables, it's a digital signal, which means it'll either work or it won't. An HDMI cable is an HDMI cable, you're paying for the look of the cable after that. Don't knock AmazonBasics until you've tried some of their stuff. They are efficiently-designed to reduce cost for you, and they work well. The antenna and HDMI cable are comparable to other brands.
You'll save at least $30 with this bundle, and it would make a perfect gift for a college student going away, or anyone that just bought a new TV. Recommended.
