The first night of camping, I snapped 3 of these sticks and set them up around the campsite. I used a blue, a white, and a red on the first night. I placed 2 of these on things we may trip over when it is dark out: the stake in the ground for our dogs' leashes had the red glowstick attached to it and an extension cord running across the campsite had the white stick attached to it. I put the blue one in our drink cooler so we could see our drinks in the cooler when we opened it up without having to use a lantern every time we wanted to search for a water or a soda. I activated all 3 sticks at 9 PM when the sun was going down so that they could illuminate things for us until we all went to bed around 2 or 3 AM. In the morning, I collected the 3 sticks and threw them in the trash, expecting them to be worthless now.
Fast forward to the 2nd night of our camping. I went to do the same thing with the other 3 colors of glowsticks (green, orange, and yellow) so that I could place them in the same three areas I had glowsticks setup the night before. Just as I was getting ready to crack the 3 glowsticks for that night, my girlfriend yelled at me to STOP!!!! She noticed that the bottom of our trash bag was glowing a tad. THE GLOWSTICKS FROM THE FIRST NIGHT WERE STILL LIT UP!! So what did I do? I dug them babies out of the trash! ALL THREE of them were still emitting light. Granted, the light emitted was not as strong as the previous night, but ALL THREE were still emitting light nonetheless. It blew my mind really, because the packages only advertise 12 and 8 hour light times. This was a whole 24 hours later, and they were still putting out light. So I used the same 3 sticks from the night before to use again in the exact same places I was using them the first night of camping! They still had a good amount of light coming from them, more than enough for us to be able to see and identify things we could trip over. The blue one we used in the cooler still worked well enough for use to be able to see the drinks as well.
So just to test out if it was a fluke or not, I still decided to snap the next 3 colors of green, orange, and yellow. Now we had 6 glowsticks going. The 3 from the night before were used as I described above, and the other 3 I activated on the 2nd night of camping were placed into our glasses that we were using to drink a few alcoholic beverages so that way they could light up our glass and we wouldn't lose track of our drink when it was dark and we were tipsy. It was me and my gf, so my glass got one glowstick put in it and her glass got 2. Figured I'd be nice HAHA.
Ok, so let's fast forward to the THIRD night of camping. The glowsticks from the 1st night were finally done. When they stopped emitting light is beyond me, because they were lit up all through the second night when we went to bed that 2nd night so they either died out sometime in the night or sometime the next day (3rd day) of camping. The glowsticks we cracked on the 2nd night were still emitting light on the 3rd night of camping though, the same as the first batch we activated.
So the conclusion here? These last WAY longer than they advertise, with each and EVERY glowstick we activated lasting more than 24 hours, no matter what color we used. They did not last 48 hours, but they most certainly lasted over 24 hours.
I would highly highly recommend using these, as they are some great quality sticks it seems. They also can be stored for quite awhile apparently, as the expiration date on the ones I purchased said 2021. I'd bet that with time, they wouldn't be as strong for as long, but who keeps glowsticks for 4 years anyways? LOL.
Very happy with my purchase here and I know where I will be getting more when I need them.
The upside though is that they last a VERY long time. I cracked my blue one around 5 pm and when I woke up in the next day it was still glowing (fainter). Overall great product but unless you REALLY like glow sticks like I do, it might be cheaper to just buy the ones from the party stores.
I also sent these to some family living in a very rural village/hamlet in Eastern Europe and they love them for when power goes out for the chemical reliability.
Yellow is probably brightest if you need to read by, but white works almost as good and they are all effective for light marking and small area illumination.
I recommend this product.
