Big disappointment!

While the game itself is fun to play, the connection to Steam was a huge interference. Additionally, if you are runnig windows 7 64 bit professional (as I am), then you MUST have ffdshow codecs (64 bit AND the 32 bit versions) installed as well as LAV video and audio codecs installed, otherwise the video clips in the game will not play. This is something they do not tell you. If the initial alien device you encounter in the game (labelled "Welcome to Hunrath") does not show the video clip of the mayor, then the ending of the game will not execute. These necessary codecs are NOT listed in the requirements section and if you contact Cyan (as I did) they tell you to install a Windows fix (related to Windows Media Player for N and KN machines) that is totally wrong and ineffective. According to Microsoft, the fix they refer to should ONLY be installed on Windows 7 N and KN machines (which are operating systems sold overseas!)!! I prefer my games to be completely installed and to run from my machine - NOT via an internet connection to "Steam." Save yourself some grief, if you want to play Obduction, buy it and download it from GOG Games - skip the Steam interference.

Have played all the Myst type games from Cyan. This was great with the 360 degree panoramic turning. Puzzles were stimulating and made sense. Graphic were beautiful. Love playing it. Was sorry when it was over.
Make sure your system is up to the requirements to play this to fully enjoy the visual.

Challenging game for the casual player like me, but still love it. The puzzles are fun to work and the story is enjoyable. Would love to see more from Cyan come out as I was a MYST junkie. Highly recommended if you like to relax and explore a new world.

My wife and I enjoyed Myst together many years ago, as well as one or two of the sequels. I thought Obduction would be a great chance to enjoy a computer game with the whole family -- our kids are now old enough to play with us -- as well as a great way to test out the new GPU.

We barged our way through a a few puzzles. Neither the puzzlers, nor the story surrounding the puzzlers, was engaging for any of us. We haven't picked it back up in weeks. We gave it more of a chance than we would have if it had not been something of an heir to Myst, but it just is not as engaging.

Graphics settings a problem

Color distortion and over-the-top contrast on my Alienware laptop made it impossible to play when first launched. After experimental adjustment of graphics settings on the game, it has worked fine. Don't give up on this game until you have fiddled with the settings for a while.

I have not been ablie to install this game on a Windows 7 PC which has more than enough resources to run 10 of this game at the same time. Contacted Cyan support, and sent logs they requested, but haven't heard back from them. I'm on the verge of getting my money back if this is not resolved soon. I hope everyone who was able to install Obduction is enjoying it!
