What I was most impressed about with this book is how Shira can explain these complex concepts utilizing language and terms that someone without a cybersecurity background will be able to immediately comprehend. What struck me the most was how she explained concepts about adapting communications to different generations, how to address training needs, and how to address operational security. Her writing style of providing excellent story-telling plus bringing in experts who are also skilled at explaining their areas of expertise made this an enjoyable read. What stands out the most for me is that this is a book I feel comfortable giving someone who does not have top-level expertise in security to give them the background they need. I also would recommend this book to experienced cybersecurity professionals because her writing style not only explains concepts, it does so in a way that our customers understand. We need more customer empathy in this field, and this book can help there because it provides a view into how they think. I am extremely impressed with her writing style, and how she is able to concisely explain these concepts. Her section on Blockchain alone discussed concepts behind the technology in a way that few others have been able to touch.
Shira has provided a book that I consider to be a valuable resource. I look forward to what she's going to publish next.
The subsequent chapters were very interesting as each of them hit on topics that widely discussed in the field. This is a wonderful opportunity to “hear” from the experts in each of their verticals, some of the challenges that we are facing as well as what we are doing to address them. The chapters I really enjoyed were Chapter 7: Staying Cybersecure in the IoT Revolution and Chapter 8: Cyberwars- Bringing Military Lessons to Modern Information Security.
Overall, this book was easy to read and I highly recommend it. Kudos to Shira and everyone who put this together.
If you are reviewing you enterprise level securities strategy, and looking at Zero Trust or Insider Threat models, this book will assist you in gaining a wider range of ideas and approaches.
By reading this book you will dig into the psychology of people and gain new ways to tackle your risks and threats. The method of using an interview approach to gaining insights from experts in their field, changes the dynamic of reading a book written solely by the author alone, to providing an engaging journey of discovery; as of you had hired these consultants yourself.
I hope you enjoy the read as much as I did.
I found the interview with General Touhill very interesting. Applying some basic military thinking and tactics to cyber-warfare should be fundamental to any cyber defense. This may not be a kinetic war, but it is war. Being situational aware when using social media, using MFA and VPNs, and using a Zero Trust model should be everyone's starting point.
Shira has written a great book for everyone to read and understand.
