Not happy, stay with PowerDirector 9

Sorry to write, if you have PowerDirector 9, keep using it. This one PowerDirector 16 seems to have the same bells and whistles however it is a journey trying to locate them. Their customer service if pure fiction. I sent emails and received zero replies. If there is a telephone number, it is well hidden. With PowerDirector 9, I rendered videos either .WMV 9HD Standard Quality or MPEG-4. Both of which if in PowerDirector 16, I have not located the rock it is hidden on. Try adjusting audio as in version 9 and you will soon abandoned that chore.

This program is easy to get started in and looks like it has a lot of potential. I have been playing around with it all day and am getting better and better. For the price of $45 it was definitely worth the money. For clarity, I have very little experience with video editing and editors. I couldn't justify spending several hundred dollars for Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere. I am glad I went with PowerDirector 16. It is doing everything I need and cost a fraction of the price. Editing on my laptop does not get laggy and that is what I need. I am working on an Acer Aspire E 15 Model: E5-576G-81GD. Specs: 8GB Ram 256SSD and Intel i7-8550U (4 core processor).

It took me a little while to figure out all the functions, but it did a very nice job in editing, producing the video, and burning the DVD. I had an older version of Power Director and that helped a lot, but I'm still learning about all of 16's functions. The best part is that video can be downloaded from a home movie DVD. That comes in handy when you want to make a video of highlights of other videos you have made. I've made videos of my elderly parents to show at their birthday celebrations. You can get scenes from different DVD videos, as well as video downloaded from a camcorder, that the person is in.

Could not get it to work

I was trying to produce our 50th Anniversary trip, a combination of photos and videos. I have to admit that the This This product is not necessarily user friendly. I am not a computer wiz and after 5 conversations (emails..they do not communicate on the phone) it became clear to me I was never going to get this product to work. I met all of the system requirements, got everything produced and ready to burn to disc and cannot get it to burn to disc. Started the project in July and now it is almost the middle of October and no joy. VERY DISAPPOINTED. I am now out $60+ bucks as it is no longer returnable and have to rebuild the project on a different program. I will say the customer service was at least responsive but even with all of their help it does not work.

I like the software it is very good and doesnt cost that much for what you get but it is sometimes a bit quirky. It has a good timeline and is optimized well but it has a big problem for any pros and that is that you cannot use any aspect ratios but 16:9 and 4:3. I wanted to make a 21:9 cinamatic movie but I can without an overlay which means that if it is on a widescreen monitor it will be a box in the middle if you have an overlay which is annoying but only primier pro does it and from what I hear it is also maybe availible is sony vegas pro so be aware of this if you wanna make a cinimatic style movie. Also the website is a bit clunky with ads everywhere and when I originally went on it I though this was scam software but it was not so be aware of this too, also you can do custom export setting but it is limited by a dropdown menu that on only gives less than 15 options for setting like Frames Per Second and Resolution. And sometimes when I want to import certain files it refuses and I have to post on youtube then download and then reupload.
But it is good software for someone starting out and it is better prices than $240 a year for primier pro. It would be nice if some of these things were fixed bcause it can quite simply be changed with not that much extra coding I would know cause I took software development courses and did some work. Also the lack of a consumer suggestion service for the software is disapionting.
But the simplicity of it is great and saves time, the easily downloaded templets and transitions is something welcome. And wave editor for free is a nice feature to have because I always edit the audio to make sure it is the best possible. And I also like that you can capture audio and video straight in the editor. I know I have bashed the product this whole review but for most it is the best because a more professional video editor is dificult for the normal consumer or "Prosumer" to use.
Can it be used in pro applications? Yes. Is it for profesional video editors? Maybe? but in the end it is more of a product for the prosumer or a starting youtube video editor.
I would give it a 4 or 5 but until Cyberlink changes it so that you have a text box to edit frame rate, video resolution, and aspect ratio it will stay at a 3, or atleast give me the option of exporting 21:9 video. For everyone it is great but for more cinamatic movies(ex. 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio) or specific frame rate videos (ex. 144fps or 100fps) I would not recomend it for those people. Just remember who the market is for.

I love this software and should have started with it years ago. I've been using Corel Video Studio for the past 5 years and, while it works OK, it's much easier and faster to use PowerDirector 16. Adding color & exposure control, video stabilization, cropping and speed adjustment is a snap. It also loads faster and renders videos quicker than the other brand.
The only negative I've found is I can only load one copy of the software on one PC. I have a desktop and laptop (for travel), but I'd need to buy a 2nd copy to use on my laptop. Otherwise I love this software. Great for beginners and intermediate users without a steep learning curve.

Prior to purchasing PowerDirector 16, I was using Windows Movie Maker, to create motorcycle movies from my rides. I found Windows Movie Maker to be extremely tedious to work with, and lacking functionality. Buying PowerDirector 16 has upped my game tenfold. Once you get the hang of it, it's an easy-to-use video editing program, with plenty of functionality for do-it-yourself video projects. Highly recommended!
