So, I went to my trusty Amazon and found these cleats. They arrived quickly but since it was obvious it was an "open box" package, there weren't any installation instructions. I had never removed or installed cleats before since I had always either been provided cycling shoes at the studio or I just wore sneakers in the cages. It seemed fairly self explanatory and I took note of how the beater cleats were installed so I could reverse the process with these new cleats. This sort of worked. I got the cleats on and they looked like they were on correctly. In fact, they seemed correct enough that when I arrived at my cycling class and couldn't get them to latch into the pedals, the instructor couldn't figure out the problem either.
I had taken my allen wrench with me, tucked into my leggings, just in case I needed to adjust the angle or tightness once I got there. I sat down and told her I would try to make some adjustments to the angle and see if that helped. As I was making my adjustment guesses, I realized something. I had put them in upside down! Completely upside down. Not facing the wrong way but like the part that should have been touching the sole of my shoe was facing up to the sky. I fixed both shoes quickly and easily snapped into the pedals. I didn't tell the instructor what I had done and she didn't ask, thankfully. Had there been instructions included with the cleats, I could have avoided all of that.
Basically, minus one star for not including instructions. Maybe it was a newbie error but it's safe to assume that many newbies are buying cleats on Amazon for the first time because they are much cheaper than in a specialty store and newbies aren't ready to spend tons of money on expensive cycling gear.
i watched a you tube video on how to install. it was very simple. it even comes with the allen wrench to install.
i was worried i would screw them in too tight because the video said if you do, it will pierce the bottom of your shoes!!
so it took me a few times wearing them to get it tight enough. and i do tighten them from time to time.
also do not be alarmed they dont stay black. lol. from going in and out of the clip they end up mostly silver over time.
i would purchase these again for my next spin shoes as well!
