I agree with the other reviews that Muscle Milk does contain more sugar and fat than most other protein supplements, but you're talking about 6 grams of fat per serving, and just two grams of sugar. Not that much. If you're on a super strict diet, then fair enough but if you're using this as a meal replacement or a post-workout recovery drink I think it fits the bill perfectly. I also like how it has glutamine already in the mix, not very much so I still supplement it separately as well but still a nice touch have an amino acid like that in a protein shake.

The only other amino acid I think is worth taking is L-Citrulline, Citrulline Malate 200 Grams Powder + Free Beta Alanine 200 Grams. This one actually increases the ability to signal muscle cells and releases growth hormone, also increases the metabolism naturally. I don't believe in taking amino blends, but if they are included in the protein I am taking, I won't complain. I will however, still add the necessary components to build muscle and I have always preferred to go to the ones that have been proven to work.

So, if your looking for the best tasting protein (i.e. actually tastes like a chocolate milkshake), then you can do no better than Muscle Milk. One tip is to put some ice in the blender when mixing, makes it taste almost like a malt. And unless you're in a serious bulking phase, drinking this post-workout makes the most sense, since your body will suck up the extra sugar and fat that make this shake taste so good and use it for recovery.

I work out for hours a day,
before, after work, also for play.
started to feel tired, some fatigue.
sports science major said "this is what you need"

low in sugar compared to other brands,
tastes delicious, after a couple shakes from your hand,
i bought again, vanilla i demand!
smooth, tasty, not gritty like sand.

Well here's the famous Muscle Milk.

If you are thinking about getting this product but you are not sure if it is appropriate for you let me let you know why it probably is, or probably isn't or at least you should go easy on it.

Although this is no "weight gainer", it is between a regular protein powder and weight gainer, since 2 scoops have 350 calories. 160 of those are from fats, 8 of them saturated. MCTs fats are easily burned as energy, but you can still find nutritionists that say that's just not true. So it's up to you. I would go with bodybuilders and athletes that love the product since, well, they are the, literally, living proof.

When should you drink it? The manufacturer tells you that you should consume it after waking up, before working out, after working out, and before sleeping...hehe well manufacturers are always telling us to consume their product as much as we can for "better results" but the truth is that supplements should be used wisely and aren't magic so don't worry about consuming it 4 times a day. Besides, 160 times 4 are 640 calories from fat. That's 30% of 2000. You should get about 25% of your calories from fat (if you really wanna be lean) so if you mix the muscle milk with soy milk and you eat close to 3000 calories, that's almost all the fats you should get. Nothing else, no peanut butter, no almonds, etc. Besides there's no really need of muscle milk after waking up and before workout. Everyone knows that whey protein is the best pre workout protein due to its fast effect. But I get it after workout and before sleeping.

Does it work? Well, if you have a good workout and you have a good diet it does work. I have dropped some body fat % since I started to take it and I have gained some muscle mass without gaining any fat.

This stuff ROCKS! I confess I bought my first smaller container at Costco. It was chocolate, the only flavor they carry. I wanted Vanilla to go with my morning fruit smoothly that Dr. Oz says is the key to stopping the muscle-bound bullies from kicking sand in my face. It worked! I have bulked up to 210 pounds of rock hard muscle. Sinews that glisten in the sunlight, thews that form a solid silhouette against the skyline. You remember that girl on the front of the hot rod magazines? I simply flex my right torangies and strut my oversize butangerock. Instant success with her! And that tattoo lady on the biker magazine, as a bonus! One thing that helped with my decision to buy this HUGE jug of muscle milk is the Dynamic, New and Informative Label. It has all the usual Nutrition facts required by law but ADDS TO THE REQUIREMENT's by having Nutrition Highlights as well as these groovy diagrams of essential and non-essential amino acids! Now when you are on the beach and you get sand kicked in your face you can stand up proud and state, " I've got 820 mg of L-methionine on board, dude. Show me what you got." And if you have to, you can DRAW THE DIAGRAM because you read the label. Please check out the pictures that I posted with this product.

I bought it for my pre-bed protein shake, since it contains casein (slow-digesting) protein and whey. Taste was fine, it was a little thicker and chocolate flavor was a bit stronger than others, but the big issue here is the amount of carbs (19 grams per 32 grams of protein) and the serving size.

Label says "32g of Protein" in the front, but that's only if you use 2 scoops, bringing the total amount of servings per container down to 32. So, if you want to consume about 25-30 grams of protein per shake, as most other protein powders do, you are getting HALF what you'd expect for a 5lb container (it comes out to nearly $100 for the 64 servings or so you'd expect for a 5lb container).

After weighing that, I'm sticking to some great advice I read and mixing 100% Whey (any brand you like) with milk to provide the casein at night and that gives me the similar product as this for half the cost.
