My absolute favorite was Joy and Sorrow. I teared up several times as I read Iris's story about the love of her life, Grady. The characters are so well developed, and I felt like I actually knew them. The ending was very surprising and it was perfect. Very well done Amanda!
The first story is the coming of age story, but just because your characters are immature doesn't mean your writing style should be. At least that's how the writing style came across to me, as if the teenage heroine write it, not a professional author. The story is supposed to take place in the ‘80s, but some things described seemed anachronistic; I should know, as I graduated from high school in the mid '80s..
I thought I might be better off with the second story, which is the Regency one. I adore Regency. It is my favorite sub-subgenre of romance. But I was put off right away by excessive description of setting and circumstances as well as information dumps about the character’s backstories. Then I was completely turned off when the author spelled “well-heeled” wrong. She used the wrong kind of heal/heel. At least I hope the hero didn't look “well-healed.” I sincerely hope he had no cause to be!
The third story was very short, and I felt like it was mostly told rather than shown. That is definitely a danger in any short story or novella, when the author thinks they need to get across a lot of information quickly. But for any story to actually resonate with the reader, it needs to be shown through character actions and speech. I wanted to like the fourth story because I had heard good things about the author, but this one actually left me cold, too. Again, I felt like the writing quality just wasn't there. Word choice and sentence structure were simplistic, which I am never a fan of in stories meant for adults, and certainly too much so for a story that is historical. (This is the early 1900s.)
As you can tell from the above, I was not a fan of this anthology. Therefore, I do not feel like I can recommend it.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I received a free copy of Déjà You, but that did not affect my opinion.
The book contains five short stories written by Kelly Cain, Bianca M. Schwarz, Amanda Linsmeier, Jamie McLachlan and C. H. Armstrong. As the title suggests all the stories are to do with second chances; however, they all are based on lost love which is found again.
In complete honesty, I must admit romance is my least favorite genre to read. However, I quite enjoyed this book. I think each author did an outstanding job of developing their characters. Despite the short number of pages in each story I could connect with each character and picture them in my mind.
The stories are all set in different eras and locations. It was a fun twist to see how the stories played out in each setting.
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for short, fun summer reading choice. I can also see this as a great book for anyone traveling.
The book is easy to read and you will not be able to put it down until you find out how each story ends! Recommend you get a copy today.
