Actually, I don't really think the passing of that date will do anything to reduce the impact of the story, as there is always another convenient date looming for the end of the Earth, or at least of Earth as we currently know it.
Projectile vomiting aside, I think this book could be the basis of a good film, though the date issue does rather reduce the time frame for this. Actually I can see an easy way around the timing issue. There is a lot of scope in Time Loop Theory. Thinking beyond my own prejudices I guess that even the excessive nature of the sickness could have a place in a film. If convincingly portrayed it could certainly add some impact.
This is a good holiday read, adequately engineered, and written in a compelling fast action style. It is also a very empowering book for the ego of men rather past their peak condition sell by date. I suspect that many women will be less convinced by both the sexual and combat prowess of the hero, again tongue-in-cheek necessary. Mind you plenty of good books rather flatter the physical attributes of the older male hero, usually it seems when we older male authors have some of ourselves in the invented characters.
I will read Strait again, and even again.
The following is a review from The IndiePENdents
This evaluation is posted on behalf of Julia Petrakis, manager of the now defunct IndiePENdents.
The IndiePENdents ran from December 2011 until February 2016. The organization was the brainchild of Jasha M. Levi, (1921- 2013), Author of 'The Last Exile' et al.
Evaluations were made on already published, independently published, books.
Three 'evaluators' passed books that met basic objective standards of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting. Those passing were awarded "The IndiePENdents Seal".
This book was awarded seal number 10012227

Watch out ... the Deja Vu bug might just get you!
IT HAD LONG BEEN DEBATED THAT THE END OF DAYS FOR PLANET EARTH WAS SET IN CONCRETE AS DECEMBER 21, 2012. Mathematical savant Ana Christensen was merely following her instincts when working a theorem in a direction and style that could have never been accepted by traditional mathematicians. As a result she stumbled upon an ancient Mayan creation, a time loop beginning in 3114BC and ending on the long contested twenty first century date. In a dynamic race against time, Ana and her male compatriot battle the forces of individual evil, bureaucracy, paramilitary mercenaries, and most powerful of all...destiny.
First of all, I want to say thank God for the unnamed male protagonist or I would have been totally lost throughout most of the book. The mathematical stuff was pretty difficult to understand, but since he wasn't a mathematical genius, the explanations for him were definitely welcomed by me! But, don't let this deter you because this book was a wild ride! The twists, turns and outright craziness of the plot kept me enthralled until the very last page. It was very frustrating when I had to put it down to go to bed at night or make dinner for my family because I wanted to keep going to see what happened. As a Christian, I know how the world is going to end and it's not because of the end of the Mayan calendar, but I will say that by the end of the book, there was that little thought in the back of my head wondering if this kind of thing could happen. It's a scary thought!
If you are into sci-fi and/or thrillers, I would definitely read this book. The author's imagination is fantastic!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review as part of a book tour by Charisma Media. My opinions are my own and may differ from yours.
