The format, like the rememberences, is not organized in a strongly coherent fashion and this is the fault of the author and his editor and not that of the veterans.
Those looking for sweeping answers or grand tactical insight need to look elsewhere as this is the war that these men remember - the sweep was as far as their eyes could see and their war was one of cold, wet, mud and blood with memories that were narrowed with age and rememberence. All veterans will recognize the viewpoint of these fellows and what can be striking is that some of the images make famous by film and book were just one more mundane memory that often focused more on that which gave comfort to the man in the mud ... such as setting up a still to make apple jack.
I feel this work deserves a 3-star rating, but give 4-stars to the veterans memories.
