When trying to connect it to your home network via the mydlink lite app, it will likely fail at the point you enter your wireless password. This is because the camera does not use encryption when making its initial connection. So if your router is set to use WPA2, then the connection will fail. Confirmed this with a Buffalo WXR-1900DHP router.
The trick is to temporarily set your router to use no encryption, then do the camera connection process via the app, then log back into your router and camera and re-enable encryption on each. See the forums for verification as numerous other users have a very difficult time with the initial setup.
After you get that working, you will then be dealing with numerous disconnects as the cameras randomly decide to stop responding or shut down. Again, see forums for verification.
After that, you will also get errors telling you they can't write to disk. I have verified this across three different cameras with three different SD cards and it keeps happening. See forums for verification.
Connectivity via the phone app is intermittent at best. Cameras that were once working are all of a sudden unreachable. Cameras which are viewable locally, might not be viewable remotely and vice versa. Reinstalling the app sometimes works.
In the end, D-Link cameras are poorly engineered devices that should be avoided at all costs.
Finally got it to work. While on the Local tab (in the App) I tapped on the cloud icon next to the recognized camera. This was not very intuitive, kind of a lucky that I tapped the tiny blue cloud. This link sent me to a form to set up online account. This was the only area that I saw that led to setting up an online account. Well by setting this account up and verifying with email I was able to then use the remote function of the app. This process still is not in a guided setup online, in the app, or in FAQ on the D-Link website. BTW I've been on the phone for about 1hr and I'm about to hang up b/c I'm sick of hearing (hold & waiting) automated messages about other products. Well its a wonder support line is busy...hmmm write some support info on the support site online that is accurate and up to date!
Once it was online Dlink customer support tried to convince me that ONLY the "mydlink home" app would be able to let me access the device video, BS. Their software is so screwy that the "my Dlink home" app automatically accesses the "mydlink lite" app that is already installed. Since this is a cloud app they could easily use software to display the video only in their other apps. Since I now have a mix of their cameras it is highly frustrating to have to use different apps to access different devices. After looking at the other reviews I see that they have other software issues too. Wish they would get their act together.
The video is fine and if this camera is the only model you are using then the "my Dlink home" app running from your smartphone or tablet is adequate. Other reviews say you can't access the device video from a Mac or Windows computer.
There are two red IR LEDs that are quite strong and it appears that the resultant night vision is more like 22' (greater than the 16' spec).
I use the camera to watch my backyard. I've noticed that the video quality rapidly degrades when you want to look at something more than about 30' away. If this is important to you I recommend getting a camera that displays at least at 1040 P. This camera displays at 720 P.
