You can simply plug in the DWL-G122 to enjoy the freedom of wireless networking. When used with other D-Link AirPlus G products in their default configuration, the DWL-G122 automatically discovers and connects to the wireless network.
Like all other D-Link wireless adapters, the DWL-G122 Wireless USB Adapter can be used in peer-to-peer mode (ad-hoc) to directly connect to other 802.11b/g wirelessly enabled computers for direct file sharing, or in client mode (infrastructure) to connect with wireless access points or routers.
Note: Maximum wireless signal rate based on IEEE Standard 802.11g specifications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors lower actual data throughput rate. Also, compatible with USB 1.1 port. However, if device is used with 1.1 port, throughput may be diminished.

As the other reviewers had indicated, this unit works great. Install the driver and then plug in the gadget. The Dlink icon in the system tray gives you status info on the gadget. Clicking on the icon takes you directly to the standard WinXP networking interface, not a proprietary interface that seems to often conflict with what XP is telling you (ie with Linksys products).
The unit also comes with a USB extension adapter/cable in case it is inconvenient to plug the unit directly into your computer's USB port. It is also useful as a means to extend the range of the unit by keeping it away from the metal chassis of your computer.
HOWEVER, the driver software provided online DOES NOT WORK. I've tried to follow and ignore its directions with equal failure for too many times. The only way to get it recognized by WinXP is to use the CD. I've the Rev. A2 version of the adapter and I don't know which rev you'll get from Amazon, but just remember to keep a copy of the driver CD somewhere.
FYI, I bought mine from Fry's for about FIVE bucks after rebates...
It turns out you need specifically a revision B DWL-G122, which uses the ralink chipset. I bought a rev. A2 version, and revisions A1 and A2 both use an Intersil Prism chipset, which as far as I've been able to find, is NOT compatible with a mac.
As disappointing as this is, it does work on my PC so I'll keep it and look for an airport card for my mac.
Do not buy the A1 or A2 version of this product if you want it to work with your mac!
I installed the drivers, rebooted, and plugged this bad boy in and BAM! I was able to get onto my wireless network from anywhere in my home right after entering in my security key into the configuration software. Setup was a breeze.
Now when I want my old IBM laptop to go wireless I just whip this puppy out and plug it into my USB port. My laptop already knows about it so it just pops right up and asks which wireless network I want to connect to.
This thing must have good range because not only do I get enough signal all throughout my home I can also see my neighbors wireless network. It's nice to know that I can go further than my house. I haven't actually been outside to test the limits of the range, but why would I, it's cold out there. ;)
This wireless adapter seems to work great everytime I use it. very reliable, not very expensive, and not hard to use. Pick one up if you are looking for a USB wireless adapter. Make sure you have USB 2.0 so you can get the best speeds.
I use an I-mac powerPC G4. OSX 10.4.9 - My computer is almost 4 years old.
I tried to install the software provided by D-Link, but there is nothing for the mac on the install disk. I called D-Link Tech Support and they told me the USB Adapter I purchased was not compatable with my computer. After researching the reviews on here, I was able to get the necessary drivers that DOES allow this product to work with my computer. This product works perfectly with my computer... no thanks to D-Link tech support!
* try a different USB port. I wasn't getting the "New Hardware Found" like the manual said, until I tried a different port
* try using the Windows configuration utility instead of the D-Link configuration utility. It just works. I couldn't get it to connect to my WPA-PSK router otherwise. So keep the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" checkbox checked.
Only 3 stars because it wasn't plug-and-play - it was plug-and-fight-for-3-hours-then-play.
