The HD Outdoor Wi-Fi Camera (DCS-2330L) is the perfect solution for monitoring an outdoor area 24 hours a day from anywhere. This mydlink lite-enabled IP surveillance camera is built to last with rugged metal housing while the megapixel image sensor and IR LED illuminator give you high-quality resolutions up to 720p HD even in complete darkness. A passive infrared (PIR) sensor detects motion near the camera, allowing it to automatically record video and send you a notification when motion is detected. A built-in microphone allows for audio monitoring, which is ideal for use in entry ways.

Setting up the router wasn’t too bad, it requires some port forwarding procedures to be able to access video streaming from outside home network. My router is a WNDR4500 Netgear, updated to the latest firmware and runs great.
I had to return one of the cameras because it did not work on wireless. As for camera shell itself – outside casing and the plastic bracket design should have been metal for durability. I have noticed birds trying to sit on them and mess up the camera angle. Adjustments to the bracket (up/down/left/right/rotate) could be difficult due to very little room to turn the anchoring-nut.
Camera firmware update could also be challenging, some accepted the updates immediately, some required several tries, and one required few re-boots to finally take the update. 2.4 ghz frequency has tendency to bog down performance due to interference with similar things. I have some other things run on 2.4 ghz, and if I turn them off then the streams and retrieving videos run fast and smooth. I hope D-Link would make these to operate on 5 ghz on newer model.
Other than that it’s a great camera for what it does vs. the price. Some hardware design could be improved for ease of access, such as taking out memory card, removing the power cord etc. I have been running multiple cameras for almost 6 months now, and they run just fine with 32 gb highest speed memory card. This camera has many neat features, it took me a little bit to learn about them. If I can help someone with questions, please feel free to comment, and if I know the answer I'll post it. I have attached a photo of a bird - one of the cameras took prior to starting the video recording (a nice feature).
UPDATE AUG 2-2015:
I would recommend that only update firmware to 1.02.03 from D-Link site (via PC downlaod), any other updates after 1.02.03 should be avoided. These new updates will cause connectivity and other streaming issues. I rolled back firmware after recent updates to 1.02.03. I am also taking off a star as previously given (was 4 stars, now 3 stars) because of firmware issues.
UPDATE OCT 22-2015:
Recent firmware 1.12.00 has been one of the many worst ones. Cameras still go offline 2 to 3 times a week. To keep these cameras up and running its way too much work. I am dropping all stars to one star, I would not recommend this camera.
UPDATE MAY 31-2016:
After hard-resets to factory on cams before and after the firmware 1.12.00 update via ethernet cable, cams stay connected -- big issue before. Night vision is still pseudo (sham), a big flaw in these cams. Event setup took several tries, cams just would not take it. Attached snapshot shows how to get a 90 second recording on motion detection -- may help some folks. Revised rating to 2 stars though, cannot do more.
First, you are supposed to be notified by email whenever a motion is detected in the cameras field of view, but it happens not only when there is actual movement, but also by any change in the lighting intensity over the area covered by the camera. It happens at sunset, sunrise and whenever an exterior light is turned on or off. Decreasing the sensitivity down to as low as 5 % doesn't solve the problem.
Second, the email notification for motion detection may take from 10 to 120 seconds since an actual event triggers the alarm. This may be related to the D-Link servers but in 2 minutes you may miss something important going on.
Third, the cameras signal gets disconnected and an email notification is sent, but during that moment you can't access the video feed from the camera and it last several minutes. Some times it reconnects by themselves but others you have to unplug them from the power line, wait 1 minute, and plug them back, but as it happened last week, both cameras were disconnected over 8 times in a 2 hours period while I was homr, and would not reconnect even trying the power off-on troubleshooting. During that time I checked both the router and the modem and all the wi-fi gadgets that were connected to the router had a strong signal.. For this latest problem D-Link tech support suggested re-flashing the firmware of the cameras, which implies taking them down from where they are installed. connect them to a computer with an ethernet cable and repeat a process that, for both cameras, each took me a terrible ordeal and 2 good hours of patience and phone connection to the tech support number in a very frustrating process.
Adding all this three problems it is evident that you can't rely on them as a surveillance system: the false alarms may get you to the moral of the 'cry wolf' children tale; the delay in some email notifications don't help make me fell confident and the cameras getting disconnected at random when you are not home really make me regret the purchase of these cameras. So, if you are looking to an alternative to a paid alarm monitoring system, you better look somewhere else.
