My only complaint is that the phone will only fit in the dock without a case or skin. I knew right off the bat that there was NO way that the phone in a case would fit in the dock, but figured that a protective skin would be fine. I was WRONG, I purchased a Skinomi Full Body Skin and the phone wont slid into the dock even with that on it. I understand that they want the dock to fit like a glove but I would guess that the majority of folks with expensive smart phones have the phone in a case.
All in all this is a great dock and I would recommend to anyone. The price is a little steep, but I got it free so no complaints there. Hope this brief review was helpful!
Other than that, the product itself gets high marks from me.
The base is rubber-like, you place it on a clean window, and you rotate a plastic ring around the base to lock the unit in place. Easy.
As for the charging, you can't see it in the pictures, but the cable that's provided with this dock has a special connector which locks into the bottom half of the phone holder. In the special connector is the backwards-facing microUSB plug. Plugging your phone into this automatically enables car mode. Since I am using this on my desk, I disabled the automatic car docking bit. Plug the normal end of the USB cord into a 1A-capable charger and you've got a full AC charging unit.
The supplied cigarette charger is about 2" long and provides a 1A charge.
There's two ball and socket joints, so you can manipulate the positioning of this dock to your heart's content.
All in all, good unit, but if it didn't come with my phone I wouldn't have paid over $60 for it. Instead, I recommend the universal phone dock at [...] It looks a lot like this one. Passive Holder Tilt Swivel - Handyhalter für das Auto - Schwarz Just use sugru + double sided tape to mount it to somewhere in your car.
I would not buy it again - I would find something else (but at this time I found no other mounts which is disappointing) or go without!
One handed horizontal use - you can easily drop your phone in and not also have to snap down a holder arm (like the iBolt).
Includes the power cable (some mounts don't).
The power cord has a standard USB plug on the power end (not the phone end), so if you have a two-outlet USB cigarette plug, you can use that if you want to. You could also plug that into a computer or home USB charger adapter. I've had other kits which have a one-piece cord and plug, which limits your options.
Swivels easily, but there is a "con" associated with this - don't expect to swivel your phone often.
Twist to attach suction cup functionality is nifty, but this is unimportant overall.
One handed *sideways* phone insertion almost never happens. You must almost always hold the USB power cord in place with your other hand, otherwise your phone pushes it out. However, I have found if you have your mount placed vertically, you can drop the phone in and it works well.
The power cable is not permanently attached to the mount (and is proprietary, more later) and it tends to fall out. Worse, *if* the two tabs holding the proprietary plug in were to break, your $70 car kit would be useless (unless you buy another cable, and I suspect that would be $$ from HTC).Read more ›

Durable and easy to slide phone into, but there's not much holding the phone in. It's really just the friction on the USB connector that's keeping the phone attached. Read morePublished on August 9, 2014 by Cerin
