From the Manufacturer
Manage all your cell phone and landline calls from a single unit, using the Uniden D3588-2 DECT 6.0 corded and cordless phone with answering system. The perfect solution for your busy home or small business, this system includes a corded phone on a keypad base plus two cordless handsets. Pair up to four cell phones with the Bluetooth® CELLLiNK™ connection, and transfer up to 6,000 phonebook names and numbers (1,500 for each cell phone). This system works even without a landline -- you can use it as a high-quality extension of your cell phone and enjoy excellent handset range and brilliant voice quality.
Manage Both Cell Phone and Landline Calls
Pair up to four Bluetooth® enabled cell phones via CELLLiNK to this convenient phone system, and manage all your calls from one place. You can conduct two calls at once -- one cell phone call and one landline call. You can also assign unique ring tones to each of the cell phones and to the landline, so you know exactly which line the call is coming through. You don't even need a landline to use this system. It can act simply as an extension of your cell phone, providing clear audio and superior range.
Advanced Features for Managing Calls and Contacts
The Uniden D3588-2 phone system offers a convenient array of advanced features. With the Caller ID function, you can activate Caller Announce, which speaks the name of the caller, allowing you to screen calls even when you're not near the phone. Caller Block lets you block up to 20 numbers with the touch of a button. Other smart features include intercom and call transfer between handsets, speakerphone settings on the handsets, and a one-touch silent mode that silences all ringers from any handset.
DECT 6.0 Digital Technology for Outstanding Clarity, Security, and Range
With DECT 6.0 digital technology, this cordless phone avoids interference from wireless networks and household appliances, giving you brilliant voice clarity. This technology also offers better security against eavesdropping and an improved range over other phone systems. The corded phone on the base provides an added layer of privacy, since it cannot be accessed through the airwaves. In addition, the corded phone will continue to work even during a power outage.
White Backlight Keypad and Display for Easy Viewing and Dialing
With a high-contrast white backlit keypad and display, this cordless phone with answering system makes it easy to dial accurately and to see who's calling, both day and night. The phone's user-friendly interface and large, comfortable buttons make it a great choice for any household.
Digital Answering System with Easy Message Retrieval
The Uniden D3588-2 phone system comes with a built-in answering system that records voice messages up to 16 minutes long with crisp digital clarity. Retrieve messages from the base or from either of the handsets, each of which features a message waiting indicator light. An LED message counter on the base tells you, at a glance, exactly how many messages are waiting for you. You can also retrieve your messages remotely if you are away from your home or office.

I spend a lot of time on teleconference calls via a landline and get frequent calls on my cell phone. So that means I spend a lot of time using a speakerphone and wireless headset. (Luckily, I didn't purchase the Uniden DHS100 DECT Wireless Headset until I was sure this phone system would work for me. I'm confident the DECT headset would have worked well with the system since DECT has a great usable range in general.) The speakerphone on the base unit was not passable at all, which is a dealbreaker. I have the base unit on my desk and everyone I called via landline said I sounded like I was in a big open cavern. I need to sound professional on conference calls- it's just plain annoying to have a call when someone's phone is of low quality. Are speakerphones really that hard to implement? Many home phone systems I've tried have the same exact issues. This phone replaced a Fanstel ST150, which had a great speakerphone while it worked (DO NOT BUY THE ST150 PHONE- see my review there).
The Bluetooth CELLLiNK (how many L's does that feature really need?) is a neat idea but poor implementation. I connected both my iPhone 4 and wife's Droid X to the system. My iPhone 4 was within a yard away from the base station but the quality of a call was horrendous. People could barely hear me at all using the base station speakerphone and their speaking volume went up and down. Speaking over the corded handset did not make the CELLLiNK connection much better. Enabling "HD" voice mode to improve quality was a joke. I think I got a better CELLLiNK call quality with my Droid X, though, so YMMV. The system did do a good job of ringing when someone called the cell phone. I've heard that other Bluetooth phone systems don't always acknowledge that a call is coming to your cell phone, thus defeating the purpose of the feature. I don't think CELLLiNK is ready for prime time.
The user interface was not enjoyable or intuitive. There are the 4-way navigation keys but the middle button is not select- it works as a cancel button or play button. So you're navigating menus and you frequently cancel your choice when you're ready to make a selection. The function buttons are clear plastic with wording at the bottom of the button. The clear nature of the buttons makes it hard to read the buttons at a normal viewing angle due to an annoying textual reflection- you just need to see the buttons to know what I'm talking about here. The numerical buttons on the base station do not give a good feel when you press them. They're smooth plastic but depressing them is uneven and squishy- they kind of rock around if you hit them off center.
I didn't waste my time trying to figure out the answering machine or address book features.
- Base unit's corded handset works during a power failure.
- DECT/base handset call quality over landline were clear.
- Included handsets automatically pair with base station.
- The "Silent" button on base station can mute all incoming call ringers.
- Great range/reception from handsets to base station.
- Wall mountable.
- Dedicated mute button on base station (I'm not a fan of soft keys for basic phone functions).
- Bluetooth pairing was somewhat painless.
- The display did not display an apostrophe for me. It shows up as a question mark.
- No speed dial buttons.
- While the base station is slightly tilted, the display needs more tilt. It's tough to see on an angle; can only view it well straight down.
- Lots of menu scrolling to set up and make each CELLLiNK call.
- You need to delete redial list entries one-by-one. No "delete all". Very annoying. And you need to do this on every handset.
-Easy setting up the base and two wireless handsets.
-A old head-set I have easily plugged into a jack on the wireless handsets
-Mute feature on base and wireless sets works great for conference calls
-Blue tooth to my Blackberry easy to set-up.
-Great to answer Blackberry calls on a hand-set.
-One feature not mentioned---when there is a message on my Comcast land-line, a small blinking light advises I have a message waiting.
Wish I knew about this product sooner. Great performance for the money!
The clarity and quality of sound when the base put on speaker is loud and clear- no issues at all. The base is made of solid material and my son dropped it couple of times on the floor (carpet) no damage done. Easy menu options, caller id, navigability from one option to another is easy. Answering system works well. We went with 2 cordless phones- the power adapter with one of the cordless didn't arrive with the packet, once we contacted the seller they were prompt enough to send the spare adapter- fast! Bright green light comes up if put on Mute, the screen on base has bright light, cordless phones are sleek, nice keys, we like the nice blue light on the key pad!
However this phone has a small glitch - may not be for all; when we connected one of our cell phones to the Bluetooth, it connected well with all three phones, but when we receive a call, and if you take call from either of the phones, there is a gap of few seconds before you can hear the other party. However all three phone rings when you get a call. Not being able to hear the caller for first few seconds is a 'hello- hello' scenario and sometimes we have had callers disconnect and call again.
This phone has a nice feature - when there is a call, it spells out the name/number of caller- great enabler when you're not close to the phone, still know who is calling!
We got this pretty cheap - under $30 and for the price we got it- this phone works very well. We like sound clarity one of the reasons we're keeping it and the phone directory download- we transferred the phone list of all our three cell phones on the base and cordless (download it on one phone and it shows up on other remaining phones- base and cordless), it shows separately four phone directories- one original hard entered directory and the other three with separate phone names- sweet!
I would highly recommend this phone, if you don't want to use the Bluetooth option!
We don't have a 'land' line, but functions perfectly with only a cell phone. You can make calls from anywhere in house while your cell is charging, and it rings when your cell does if cell's Bluetooth is on. It works instantly when you walk in the front door without turning anything on, etc.
Cordless units also work as intercoms and can page from/to main unit and each other. Can even page only one cordless to prevent eavesdropping from other units. Pretty handy feature.
