good value, good idea

Cutters are OK, strippers are OK. I'm an electrician as a profession, as well as tinkering with electrical devices at home. These are nice for multiple cut and strip back to back. Best example is having 100 conductors that all need terminated. I hold them with cutters down, feels awkward at first but makes tasks go faster so you're not turning them, cutting, turning them, stripping.. I just cut at bottom, strip at top without flipping the tool around. These strippers only work well with 18awg mtw (1015) wire or smaller.

I've landed over 2,000 wires using these and they still work, but you have to grip them perfectly now applying pressure at very top of strippers or they will slip and just peel half the wire insulation off and will not take rest off unless you cut insulation slightly, or cut clean and restrip.

These are little harder to get used to than we originally thought they would be. They're great in a pinch, but we still go back to the Kobalt Catapults. Clever design. Nice snips, but you have to use more force. When stripping wire, you really have to hold on tight to the wire with your forefinger and thumb, or else it will not work. In a manufacturing assembly line, don't do it. For home shop or occasional use, great!

Interesting, but ultimately unacceptable

It's an interesting and useful-seeming concept. But in real life it just doesn't work out.

The Wire Stripper: As you compress the handles the insulation gripper "claws" and the stripping blades move together, respectively. At some point they meet. At that point the handles pose a lot of resistance, so you have to markedly increase the pressure on the handles. At some point the handles snap together, quickly forcing the stripping blades away from the insulation gripper. Using solid copper 24 gauge telephone wire as an example, if I try to strip about 1/4 inch of insulation off it seems to work pretty well. But if I try to strip between about 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch it becomes unreliable. Finally, if I try to strip about 1/2 inch or more it will almost always cut the wire at the strip point rather than stripping off the insulation from that point.

The Cutter: The fit and finish of the cutter looks excellent. Nice and sharp, blades meet evenly. So far so good. But as you compress the handles at some point you encounter great resistance while the blades are still halfway open, whereupon you have to exert substantially more pressure, and suddenly the handles compress and the cutter jumps. Now when I use fine (small) cutters like this I am usually doing precision work, using small wire, and often in the middle of a crowded wiring project. I can't afford to have the cutter jump as I'm approaching the precise cutoff point I desire.

Bottom Line: Although well made, neither end of this tool works for me.

Fast, reliable and self-adjusting

To begin with, I currently own (or have owned in the past) dozens of different wire strippers. Some were very simple and some were complex expensive mechanical devices. This little Klenk outstrips them all. It takes some getting used to and an occasional twist just before squeezing is sometimes required but overall the tool works wonderfully well. Add to that the fact that it is self-adjusting and you have an outstanding tool. And, the price is very low compared to other less worthy wire strippers.
This is actually the second one I've purchased. I had another one for several years but I gifted it to the guy who installed my new boiler since he fell in love with it. He had been using one of those strippers that looks like a flat pair of pliers with multiple wire size holes. Once I let him try out the Klenk, he didn't want to use anything else to strip the hundreds of wire connections and splices the job entailed.
I also own the black version of this tool which is sized for 14 and 12 gauge wire. While that one works well on most wires, it's not quite as effective as the smaller red Klenk.

Awesome tool for smaller wire guages

Doesn't work on all wires but that can't be expected. I have found it very useful for electronics projects with smaller wires. Will not work on heavy wires but works great on 16-22 guage from my experience.

I had never seen this style of stripper before. My introduction into electronics came back in the early 1970's when resistors were as thick as iPhones. I recently started playing with electronic hobby projects again. While looking for a decent stripper so I didn't have to do it the old way with my teeth I found these. I bought a pair to see how they work. I was very happy with the results. They strip or cut wire without effort. You can vary the length of the strip from just a hair to about a quarter of an inch.

I don't know why it took me so long to write this review. All I can think of is that perhaps I was so disappointed so quickly that i simply had to put the thought out of my mind to avoid folding up in a ball on the floor and bawling uncontrollably. This "tool" literally broke on the first use. When I say broke I mean the entire half of the wire cutter snapped off rendering it completely useless. I was so disappointed because this looked like a very cool and extremely useful tool but turns out it was just a ruse to sell me a poorly made overpriced piece of junk. If its gonna break on a 28 guage stranded wire than I can't think of an application where this would be acceptable.
