If you are just starting out, as I am, then I think these will do the trick. However, if you're a novice and quite advanced then you might want to invest more and get a better kit. One pair of the pliers, I don't remember which ones specifically, didn't line up correctly at the tip. It doesn't bother me much since I know I didn't pay top dollar for them, but if I really get into this hobby then I may need to invest in new ones.
The bent nose pliers and one of the straight nose pliers are serrated which is great for holding on to things but mars the finish on soft metals (and not so soft ones like 316 stainless steel) if you are making jewelry. The cutters are for soft metals only 1.6mm. There is one set of smooth long nose pliers as well as the round nose pliers.
I had hoped the bent nose pliers were smooth and the serrated long nose were actually smooth flat nose pliers (or at least another set of smooth pliers) for use in jewelry making.
Minor note: Mine are not pink as in the picture and many descriptions, they are black and lilac.
They aren't as pictured, either -- the handles on the set I received are sort of mauve and gray.
Basically this is the kind of quality you'd expect from a dollar store item. Cheaply, carelessly made to the point that some of the pieces are not useful. I am considering returning these, but don't know if I'll be able to get something else in time for Christmas.
The sharp plastic packaging also got smashed in shipping, ripping all 3 of the books Amazon shipped them with. This is not a comment on the product itself, but if you do decide to order this set, you may want to have it shipped separately.
