The author promotes the idea that the DASH diet is more holistic and achieves overall health. This seems to make some sense since the diet is based on the principles of a healthy, balanced diet in addition to sodium reduction.
The least convincing and most confusing part is the part about losing weight with the DASH diet.
Right at the beginning, the author writes to support his argument: "In a study of 810 people, one-third learned to reduce their sodium intake and follow the DASH diet daily at the minimum caloric level, along with healthy physical activity. Within 18 months, the participants had lost weight."
The author says that weight loss with the DASH diet is due to the caloric deficit, which is true and supported by the quote, "the DASH diet daily at the minimum caloric level". However, the relatioship between weight loss and the DASH diet is not obvious when the caloric deficit is excluded. And, all the arguments mentioned are not specific to the DASH diet but are common to any healthy and balanced eating pattern.
The author also claims that the DASH diet is effective for many conditions (obesity, lack of energy, diabetes), but we are left wanting more evidence.
Sound advice for long term good health!
I especially liked the variety of recipes and the explanation of the overall goal of the diet. They gave me ideas of things I can make that aren't in the book.

After reading this book, it really helped me understand the cliche, " you are what you eat"
The recipes are perfect for me as I don't want to lose weight and I love the combination of a meat and veg diet.
It's early days to tell if my new diet has had an effect, but I will def be more conscious of my sodium intake etc...
