Top customer reviews
1) SanDisk Pixtor 32GB class 10 - not working well. Video recording is choppy.
2) Samsung 8G class 6 - cannot be recognized
3) Toshiba Micro 16GB Secure Digital Micro SD Class 10 UHS-I Memory Card (PFM016U-1DCK) - This one is working well. Front cam with 5min 1080 recording, the quality is pretty good. I can see the lic plate of the car in the front within 20 feet. The back cam is in VGA quality but at least you can tell the position of the car behind you. ( I just want to help other buyer. I am not a sales from Toshiba:)
This dash cam is totally dead. The battery is dead and the cam cannot make any recording at all even it is powered by car battery. Downgrade to 1 star.
UPDATE: This thing quit working. Also difficult to retrieve files from card -- says they are MP4 but will not play on Windows media play. This one is no longer available from this seller and for good reason. They were really good to me and refunded my purchase and because I like this cam style and review cam I bought another one from a different seller, hoping this one was and exception and failed prematurely -- now a few months after using the new replacement it too failed. It looses its screen image but the mic light stays lit. Works then stops and the same problem with the new replacement -- will not play on Windows Media Player not with VLC Media Play ??
It's very small, easy to find a spot for it on windshield without blocking the view
Price is low, it does the job without burning a hole on the pocket
Recording both front view and rear view
The file format is MP4, smaller than MOV
It's very hot when it works
It does not remember settings like image orientation, and I want rear view cam to stay on all the time. when you start the ignition, it goes back to front view with back view as pic-in-pic
The pic-in-pic function is totally useless, the screen is already very small like the size of a post stamp, which does not bother me that much, I can review the footage on computer screen. The pic-in-pic is of the a fingernail size, can't see anything
It's a toy, which can give you a lot fun, If you look for a piece of car equipment, it's the wrong one.
Update 6/1/2015. The adhesive mount of the rear camera does not stay on firmly. It fell off many times since May 22, 2015
does not record in 1080p even if it says so in the menu, its a deception from the camera program. only record in 720p and vga(vga only for rear camera, can't be change) which is okay for me.
pros: front and rear view camera.
cons: poor video quality. front is 720p but not true 720p looks more of a upscale. vga camera for rear, records at 720x480p, 30fps, video size 18.5mb with sound recording. rear camera has a bit more clarity to it since it only records in vga. both cameras have very poor night recording.
update 8/3/2014: device driver corrupted, stopped recording and all other function. locks on welcome start up screen.
Update: turns out the front camera is defective and is causing the problem. i open up a different device and after troubleshooting. if no signal is received from the camera, the device will lock up on the welcome screen. probable cause for the camera to fail is overheat, since i had it mounted on the windshield.
The sound is clear and of good volume.
I forgot, there is a winning noise whenever the camera is recording.
Trying to return the camera is more hassle and more expensive than what I paid for it.
I wouldn't recommend it, unless you have a low budget. The old say, you get what you paid for!
