Well, I purchased this device back in 2017 and is still working fine. One item that was missing was a small protective case. Finally found one; check out the Garmin 64sc gpsmap line of hard cases by Aenllosi. The case fits snug around the test unit. I also store the small end unit and a short LAN Cable in the pocket.
Within about 30minutes, I discovered it was the cabling within the wall, rather than the wiring within the room or patch cables. Although the device couldn't accurately identify if the fault was closer to the wallplate or the patch panel, it clearly identified the pair of wires which appeared to me to be terminated properly. After simply punching the affected pairs (7 and 8) at the wallplate side, instant 1000Mbps link.
Side note: Yes, the patch cable sheathing that wasn't within the RJ45 connector was very troubling to me emotionally, but no...it wasn't the cause for the fault! =)
- It says "FAIL" on the wirepairing if it's any pairing other than just a simple straightthrough patch cable.
- Product manual's english is pretty poor. You can figure out what it's trying to say, but it's very obvious that it was a translation to english.
But it WORKS. You can tell which pairs of your wire are good, and which are bad. You can tell if the fault is at the near end, or at the far end, or in the middle. Even when the numbers are off, it gives you enough data that you've found the trouble point within a few seconds.
This is a 3 star, maybe four star device tops if it cost anything close to what other And it's SO CHEAP for what it does. You're just not going to find anything even close to this price. It puts a device like this within cost reach of a casual user. For this price, maybe you're testing for shorts or open connections... This is so much more. The price is worth stars.
I was a bit disappointed to see the same tool sold for less new on eBay.
It has wire map with near-end/far-end identification, and pair-length function which is excellent for the price.
The BNC adapters to test coax cable was not part of this package.
It is not a high-quality product, but it is a great tool that really saves time troubleshooting wiring issues.

Unlike other cheaper tester, this one can test rollover cable (Cisco console cable) and 2 pairs cable (like 100Mbps cable),
the cheaper cable tester like the Master NS-468 cannnot do that, because they try to test pin1 with pin 4 or 5 for the return, so if you have a connector that only use pin 1,2,3 and 6; it will show you as pin 1 not connected,
but this one test everything, it will tell you if you have a short or an open and it will even tell you on which side the problem is.
it can even tell you how long the cable is.
It works as expected, and does it well. Its very easy to read and make sense of the display/error codes. It works best with straight-through RJ-45 ethernet cables. It does work with crossover cables, although it will display an error when testing. When there is an error with specific cables, it will show the cables/connections effected. When a crossover is tested, there is no error with the individual connections, and you can see that there are different plug types (T-568A and T-568B) but it will still give an error. The device is obviously made to work with straight-through cables mainly.
In the end, if you're a student or just need a cable tester, this is your safest option.
One feature I did like was the built in loop port.
