A Great Pocket mp3 player with a Superb Built In Speaker

At last, a good speaker sound for my SDHC MP3 collections. It does have port for earphones but I only use its speaker. The controls were hard to fathom --- I almost gave up --- but after a teeth clinched, determined 30 minutes got the hang of it. A bit unfriendly, way too simple screen readings, not detailed enough for full information control. But I got it to work and am happy I did. Right now it's just great!

My ENT ear doctor said no more ear buds or headphones. Save your what's left of your ears. So, gave up all my ear buds on mp3 players. First I used players with clumsy blue tooth or wired portable speakers, an awkward pain. I webbed for a pocket mp3 player with a speaker that works without need for earphones. Near impossible until I found Degen's great, great speaker. It's splendid for my downloaded to SDHCs my MP3 books, lectures, BBC shows, Bowery Boys History, CSPAN, NPR, MP3s, WNYC, other MP3 Downloads. Super clear sound, with a powerful speaker volume more than I need. Problem solved. I am very happy.

Its radio reception is good here in New York City. I don't even need to extend the built in antenna. Good sound too. But I have yet to figure out how to change from European to USA frequency numbers.

I am delighted to at last have a pocket mp3 player with a great speaker. I can play all my MP3 voice downloads and improve my life, pocket carry it everywhere. Thank you Degen for being smart enough to solve my problems.

This radio arrived very fast and has lived up to the product description. The sound quality is clear and good. You can't adjust the bass and treble, but I did not feel the need to. For a little radio it's audio output is a pleasant surprise.

All the control buttons are simple to understand and work as expected. The print is small, but that's what a spyglass and product instructions are for.

The radio stations come in strong and clear. I say this even though I have not heard a soul say anything on short wave since I received it. I've never had short wave, so I really don't know at this point what I might be doing wrong or is it just may be a matter of luck? Anyway, no matter; FM is what I was after.

I wish they would have provided a charger. Not including one is a hassle, but the battery was fully charged and it lasts awhile, so I have time to get a charger.

I admit I was not wanting another plastic device. Can we have something like a silicon housing for such small items? Still, the design is nice and the attractive orange stripe helps to see it when I placed it next to my lost car keys. Hey! My car keys!!!

The device looks just like the picture sort of retro. Definitely not made for wearing while you work out. There isn't even a clip and it is sort of bulky. I have not used the mp3 player function yet as you must have a mini SD card in it to work at all. The radio stations are tuned in using a side wheel just like my old transistor radio I had as a kid. I personally like the dial because it's fast but there are no memory keys so can't program any stations. The radio sounds excellent and the reception is very good. My biggest complaint is the lock button does not lock the tuner. Why not? as it is ultimately digital and they could easily make it lock but sadly they did not and that dial is very easily rotated.
If you're like me and want to listen to AM and FM radio it will do the job but I was really wanting a nice sports MP3 player with both AM and FM radio but no one seems to make one.

So far so good. The buttons are confusing - need manual to look things up as they have multiple functions. But for the basic listening to baseball and music on FM, easy enough. Impressed with battery power. So far getting 4-6 hours easily on a charge.

Updating my original review above. You can probably double that estimate of time on a charge. Have been using now for about 8 hours and have 2/3 bars on the battery.

I am adding a follow up. Since this review, I have probably used this radio for 8-10 hours working in the in yard and listening. And the battery meter still shows 2/3 of the battery left. So I would easily guess that the thing will last for 20 hours? Will let you know. But still impressed with the battery life.

Another update. Used another 2-3 hours and it finally started blinking wanting a recharge. So feel comfortable with a 10 hour projection on charge. Might last more.
