Jez Pinfold taught English and Film Studies in London for twenty years, including eight years as Head of English. Before landing in secondary teaching he had various jobs, including roadie, sound engineer, guitar tutor and teacher of English as a foreign language. After writing, his other passion is music. He plays guitar in a rowdy covers band currently called The Maverick Detectives, although they frequently change their name to avoid becoming too recognised and succumbing to the trappings of fame. --This text refers to the paperback edition.

An invitation, but to what? What kind of a sick game is the killer starting, or has he killed before? Bec and her team will be drawn into a bizarre case where the murderer seems to be aware of everything they are doing and who they are. Then she finds a camera, hidden among the victims’ property so that he can watch their search for evidence. He leaves no evidence behind until one of his victims escape, but can she help identify her attacker? Why do people open their doors to strangers? When the killer strikes too close to her own home, she realizes that he may be someone she knows all too well. An intriguing first mystery in this series as Bec confronts issues at home, as well. Strong start but predictable

This read started off strong but I quickly figured out/guessed who the killer was and from there it fell a bit flat coupled with a rushed ending and drawn out epilogue. The main character, Bec was incredibly likeable and the book nicely set up for book 2 which I look forward to reading if only to learn more about Bec. She’s the British Olivia Benson as far as dark past catching up to her present

This was the first book I've read by Jez Pinfold, and I look forward to reading more. This was a very enthralling police procedural. Rebecca (Bec) Pope is investigating a serial killer the press have dubbed "The Cameraman" because he leaves a camera at the scene of his crimes and watches the police as they examine each crime scene. The killer also leaves a message for Bec at the scene of each crime. The ending of the book had me completely stunned. I highly recommend this book to other police procedural readers. I received an ARC of this book from Net Galley, and the opinion expressed is strictly my own.

A fascinating read. Murders addressed to the investigating detective, Bec Pope. But there does not seem to be any connection between those murdered and Bec making it difficult to solve. And the ending twist is a new one for me. I expect I will be reading more from this author when they write the next one.

This is a well-written book, but it didn't hold my intention. I wasn't really fond of the detective, Pope, and I guessed the ending fairly early on in the read.
On the whole, the serial killer books are, in my opinion, getting old and tedious. The subject has become boring to me and I will not be reading more in the series. Sorry!

Sad to have finished this! A fun and gripping page turner from Jez Pinfold. Well paced, well written and well researched - as a police procedural enthusiast I was pleased to learn little details I hadn’t known before. The tension in Bec’s home life is all too real and really gives depth to her characterisation - I look forward to reading more about Bec Pope!
Plenty more good things to say but I don’t want to risk spoilers - a deserved 5 stars.
